Title: New BMW F800 R
Post by: Travman on November 04, 2008, 02:49:43 PM
BMW announced a new model today, the F800 R

They also showed this Chris Pfeiffer design version of the F800 R which may be introduced as a real model next year.  I'm not sure why they would show two versions of the bike at the same show.  They second version will undoubtly steal the thunder of the current version.

Idunno, I prefer the trellis frame of the non-Pffiefer 800R, similar if not the same as the 800GS.
Then again, I like the 800GS too.

Both of those bikes are exceedingly boring looking.   [coffee] People may not like the new Monster design, but at least it stirs some emotion. That thing is like looking at a blank white wall.

I actually like the F800 ST.  What makes this thing an "R"?

It's certainly not the inverted forks.

How boring. If I wanted something that bland I would buy a honda accord.

It looks like a last-millenium honda 600 or something!

In their defense, they HAVE made some freaky-looking bikes before and it's nice of them to realize that not all of us have such strong stomachs.

And the "R" is BMW's way of saying, "Unfaired streetbike" like R1150R, K1200R, etc...

Yup-I mean-they're trying to mix it up, so let's give 'em that.

Look at the other prototype

In this case R means roadster, BMW talk for standard.

I agree the trellis frame version may be a little better looking and I do like the new 800GS, but why show another bike at real F800 R's coming out party.

The lack of USD forks is the first thing I noticed.  For all I know they may be great handling forks, but they make the bike look down market.  USD forks and better brakes are advantages the Monster has always had over the SV650 and other cheaper bikes.

A few more pictures of the second version of the F800R.  This one definetly looks like the little brother to K1300R

i like the white one.  it would be a nice bike if it were under $8k, but at the price the f800's go for there will be way too much competition with much more power and overall better value.

Actually...that is pretty hot.  And the awesome MPG the 800 gets is looking mighty attractive, too...

The K1200R was the bike that I almost bought instead of my Monster.  Still has a certain pull, even in baby-brother form.
