Title: S4 Fork oil level How much?
Post by: jerryz on November 05, 2008, 02:54:00 AM
How much oil do i put in my S4 forks or what level should i set it  ?. each of my manuals has several different amounts!

My forks are still to bouncy in corners and vague i have 5w oil in  but they never bottom out properly and are not compliant. Some time they will have to go to UK for a revalve and spring job but in Thailand all i can do is check levels and change oil and settings .

What springs do you have?  Stock?

The stock progressive springs are challenging to make work right, because you need one amount of damping at their "low rate" and a totally different amount at the "high rate" end of travel.  This makes the fork harsh and bouncy at the same time.  Swapping to new springs that have a constant rate will make a world of difference, and you can do it yourself.  I just did mine.  It was very easy.

S4 comes with straight rate springs, they're about 0.85.

I'll try to remember to check my manual for oil height spec tomorrow.

Speeddog, if standard springs it seems standard practice just to revalve this S4 type fork or also change spring?

if so its the next thing i will do when i go to UK and get them sorted there ,they will fit in my bag and are not heavy. i cannot do much with them in Thailand .
