Title: You can only have 2 bikes. A 1098 and ______? (Yes, "Monster" is a fine answer)
Post by: Lukey on November 06, 2008, 11:44:54 PM
Sorry for the weird non-monster-specific thread but I'm seriously thinking about it.

I Can't get the 1098 out of my head.  I want it for times when "I feel the need, the need for speed!"  [leo], but I doubt I could use it as an everyday rider.

So I'm wondering what would a good do-everything second bike (everything but satisfy my Ducati/speed craving) would be?  It needs to carry my wife comfortably and be a hop-on-and-ride bike, no fussing.  [moto]

And of course, this is my fantasy: I'd love to hear what the rest of yours are!

You need to get you but in a Multistrada I love the multi and miss it allot.

It is the best twistie carver and 2 up machine arround. She 's a little hard to look at but we all know the ugly ones perform the best  [cheeky]

1098 and a Multistrada what a stable best of both worlds [thumbsup]

Can't argue with that, haven't riden one but I know how fondly Dock speaks of his Multi days.

I agree.  1098 and a Multistrada would probably cover any and all of your motocycling needs.

Now, if you weren't into touring, or riding two up I would say get a Monster as well. A 620/695/696 would make a nice commuter in addition to an SBK.

Being this is a monster board, I'm surprised I seem to be amount the minority when I think the monster would be my first bike.

I've ridden and owned all kinds of bikes, and the monster is my favorite, I wouldn't replace it with anything else.

Not saying I wouldn't like to add the SBK to the stable.

If you have to take your wife? A KTM 990 SM Touring special.  It's a new model with greater power and set up to tour two up. Handles VERY well and comfy.

Since it is a Monster board, I will admit. I have two monster a 620 and a 1000, but also have a Multistrada 1000. Believe you would not go wrong with one as well.

"I feel the need, the need for speed!"  ...and what is the S4RS, dog food?

When I feel the "Need for Speed" I jump on my S4R and when I feel like cruising around town, I jump on my S2R1000. Coming from a 996 and an R1 the S4RS is plenty of machine for me. I have no troubles keeping up or pulling away from the jap bike in the Twisties on my S4R.

I have been asked, would I trade my S4R for a 1098. I always say, "Never." If I wanted a 1098, I would have bought one. Personally, I would not trade my S4R for a Streetfighter either. Two different bikes in my opinion.

Good luck on your quest sir.

Yeah, I must be shallow, because one of the reasons I love the 1098 is its sexy body...

And I've ridden the S4Rs...it really doesn't compare to the 1098, power-wise.  Plan B is, however, to get rid of my S4R and get an S4Rs with genuine Termi setup...

Oh God!!  It's been over a year and a half since I left Europe.  I almost forgot roads like that existed.   :'(

That looks like the more open sections of Hwy 215 where I'm from - a pretty good road.  What's that video suppose to be showing how to ride over the center line and drag a knee when there's no reason to?  Big deal.

Yea, I've ridden behind a very well ridden Militstrada.  So?

And I can tell you a well ridden 950 SM handles as well as anything out there.  Ass me how I know.

Take a look at the plates on the bikes, and the road signs; not to mention the cars on the side of the road and the village itself.  Looks like Europe to me.

Hypermotard is not a bad comlement to a 1098, it's a whole different ride.  Big monster is more "sport" oriented, so when I ride one I tend to ride it the same way I ride my 1098, but when I get on a Hyper it's like a whole differnet world.

The Multistrada is an awesome bike for exploring backroads and touring, 300 mile days are fairly pleasant as long as you ditch the stock seat. I disagree as it being a great 2-up machine and would prefer a cruiser for that job. A Corbin saddle may be the ticket for 2-up on the Multi do to it's shape and integral backrest, but I have not used one so I am only speculating.

Putting a camera on a motorcycle is sooooo far down the list of things to do it probably will never get done.

And if you were to see me on camera it won't be scrubbing a knee like that.  The guy in the video is obviously fast, but some of us old juys just do more of the Hailwood approach.  Some may tell you differently, but the knee down big handing way off is not essential to go fast around turns.

And the peeps I know best will not stray over the center line even occasionally. [thumbsup]   Just don't do it, just say no.

Of course as always YRMV. ;D ;D

I'd take a Harley Ultra Classic with an S&S 124" motor.  If the wife is going...need space and creature comforts.
