I know there are several here who don't care much for Motorcyclist Magazine, but I subscribe because it is very inexpensive, and it's something to read after I have read Cycle World...LOL ;D. Anyway, This month they write up the Monster 1100 with some NICE comments, then they do a comparo between the 696 and the Aprillia Shiver 750. If you see one on the stand, you might pick it up and peruse it before you purchase your "entertainment for men"....

I like it where they sweepingly state that Ducati just 'got it right' w/ the 696 design.... I think the jury is still out on that.
agreed i think sales will decide than one.
Yea, they were very complimentary of the new 696 and 1100. I can only imagine how much better they are with the DP kits on em. After riding behind an 1100 MultiStrada I can attest to the stoutness of the engine. They run out of breath, but in the mountains you can't use all the high end speed of a 4 valver anyway.
The 696 is boat loads lighter that the Aprilia and sounded like it defends well the historic Ducati rep for good handling too. Wish Ducati used a valve spring four valve head on the DS motor. The 696 would have outrun the Aprilia handily as a four valver.

And not just the first few months of sales. We will have to wait 15 years to see if the 696/1100 Monsters sell as well as the classic Monsters.
Sales number speak for themselves.. one of the fastest selling new model releases in Ducati's history. Of course time will tell but so far they have been well accepted on the showroom floors.
Also the 696 motor is not a DS motor... the 696 was already hard on the heels of the shiver, no need for a 4 valve head
Now you can get the mag with your picture on the cover :P
