Title: clutch pushrod sticking too far out
Post by: lemond on November 08, 2008, 08:03:15 AM
I dun understand why this is happening but the clutch pushrod is sticking far too out that I can't get my pressure plate to mesh with the plates. I tried to push the rod back in by hand but it isnt moving much. what do I do now? are zombies going to come and try to kill me!?

There's a spring in the slave cylinder that pushes the rod out when you remove the pressure plate.

Put the pressure plate onto the pushrod, in the correct alignment, and push it down against the plates.
It'll go in slowly, as you're pushing fluid from the slave cylinder back into the reservoir of the master.
Install the springs.

Can't help you with the zombie thing.

edit: as per capo, it might of been the bearing that was the wrong size, not my pushrod.

were you replacing the plate? there are some size pushrods that are too large to fit into the bearing of some clutch plates bearings. I had to reuse my old bearing when i swapped plates. I dont remember being able to move the plate much to get the screws to be able to bite.

As far as the zombies, they will only come and kill you "until you die" if you misalign the plate. so dont worry were not all doomed....yet...

There is only one push rod diameter, which is an interference fit into the bearing in the pressure plate. If it's not, you have a problem.

so after messing around with the pushrod, making sure the plates are meshed together correctly, and added more pressure to the clutch rod it finally settled back where it should be. Geez man, all I wanted to do was to replaced a new pressure plate and new bearing..... [bang]

Thanks all for the help.

Your right, i was thinking about the length of the rod. It was probably just a freak bearing on my end.

Try to get and post a few photos or a video clip of the zombies before you get taken out.
