Title: How do I test my charging system
Post by: lemond on November 09, 2008, 12:47:15 PM
I have a multimeter, installed a new regulator, and fully charged battery. What kind of readings should I be getting at idle, 2k rpm, and ???

At idle I would expect you to see low 12's (12.3-12.5volts)
by 2000rpm I would expect 13.5-14.5volts

make sure the voltage is at or near break even voltage at idle, it should not be dropping.
idle should be no lower than 1000 rpm closer to 1100rpm

I did the fault-finding diagram from electro sport and I was hitting around 13.5 at 2500rpm. This is a 4-wire RR and the chart had me test the connection by idle, and connect the black multimeter-lead upto the battery (+) and connect the red multimeter to the Red wire from the RR I was able to get more than 0.2v. The result is that a bad connection in the positive lead from RR to the (+) of the battery. I am trying to source out where I can find replacement wires (positive terminal wires) and the wires leading to the Solenoid on my other thread.
