I'm proud to say my soon-to-be wife passed with a 98, oh so she says [clap]
We now have her and my friend Carlos on his yellow S2R. That makes two more for the bunch. Did I meet my quota? Is there a bonus being paid? :o
Also two questions:
1. looks like I blew a fork seal while tying down her bike from such a long trip. I called AMS and they only sell "kits" for $150 and they're not even Ohlins. The set shouldn't cost more than $50 bucks. Any ideas on where or who I can buy them from for a 2002 Monster 750ie?
2. the oil cooler line that goes into the crankcase has a very small drip. I knew this when I bought it but couldn't pregnant dog because I literally paniced when Loren told me the price. Had to get it! Ok so are there seals or do I need to replace the entire line from the oil cooler to the crankcase?
Thanks guys. Hope to see you all on Saturday at AMS or the Motorcycle show.
Congrats to your almost-wife! ;)
Sorry I can't help with the questions! ???
I'm sure you've thought about this but I vote you take the opportunity to rebuild both forks with race tech gold valve kit if it's possible for a non adjustable fork. Hey, you blew the seal in the first place. It was destiny, just sayin'. ;D
750s didn't come originally with oil coolers so I hope the threads aren't stripped. That said, could they just be loose? Or just from the oil filler cover?

well, it says 750 ie on the side covers and the vin confirms it. perhaps the fuel injected did come this way? I loosened and tightened but I don't want to pull the line till I know for sure if there are seals inside.

I'll pass it along, thanks.
The headsets I bought worked like magic today while tooling around town, although she yelled at me...again. Maybe the headsets were a bad idea. :-X

That's pretty funny! [laugh] I can see how the headset can be very useful, but you couldn't talk me into wearing a headset on the bike - that's the only peace and quiet I get! :-X

Oops, I should have said older M750s didn't come with an oil cooler and that it is possibly an add-on but since it is a 2002, I could be wrong. I just checked an oil line that I had and it does have seals. There were two "O" ring seals on the part of the oil line that enters the engine case on one end and onto the oil cooler on the other end. The part of the line that screws the line in place on both ends does not have an oil seal. If these "O" rings were nicked during install or were not installed cleanly, that could be the source of the leak. Although I have not replaced these seals myself, I have to believe they are replaceable. Check with your local hose supplier but you may have to bring your oil line with you. Time it when you have to do an oil change.
Which of the two hoses are leaking? If it is the one that crosses the cam belt covers, you could take the opportunity to replace it with one that is longer and wraps around the other side of the engine and up between the cylinders a la the HyperMotard. Actually, you could just buy the HyperMotard oil line but it may be cheaper to have one made. I'm not sure about that. The HyperMotard's line is about $100+. Hope that helps.

the leak is coming from the line that crosses the belt covers. I will check with AMS Tuesday, thanks. If they knock the cover off the ball I'm going to an automotive store with line in-hand.
First, ditch the headsets. Second, ditch the headsets. There, fixed. [thumbsup]
