Title: how to take m695 battery out.
Post by: tristantumble on November 10, 2008, 05:07:22 AM
hi, i'm sure this may seem like an easy thing to some, but yesterday as i changed the oil and got my bike ready for winter, my last thing was going to be pulling the battery. i started with the negative side, there was a little spark - i freaked out and left it. the bike was fine, still turned on..but that was enough to discourage me from going forward.

how do i properly go about taking the battery out of my bike?

thanks,
tt

I was always told to take the positive side off first so that the current can go through the ground instead of through me if anything goes wrong. Make sure you don't have the bike in "park" on accident w/ the the headlight still on.

Hmmm... I've always taken the ground side off first, as that way you avoid arc-welding if you find a ground with your wrench on the positive terminal.

Zakley!  And negative on last.  If the negative cable is on and you touch your tool to grounded metal on the bike you have made a complete circuit with no load, otherwise known as short to ground.

I have swapped out my battery 6 TIMES! Just ask Speeddog he got me my last battery....
anyway I take off NEG first make sure your tank isnt full because it will start to leak while its up and that could really cause you to freak out! (gas & sparks dont mix)... The battery is in a rubber case and it will take a little elbow grease to get it out, dont try and take the battery out with the cover on its attached to a drain tube at the bottom. I re-connect in reverse order POS first then NEG.

Actually, they mix quite spectacularly!
