I am currently in the process of researching the history of american motorcycle racing for my public speaking class and I know there are many members hear with a wealth of knowledge and would appreciate any info that you may have to offer. (EX. books,links,personal)

For speeches, of the 5-7 min. variety, this 8 part :
intro (0-30 sec)
topic (30-45)
def/analysis( 45sec -1.20 min)
position (1.2-...)
preview (around 2 minutes)
body1 ( 1 part label, a., b.) ie: 1.books a. at a library b. at a store
body2 ie: 1.links a.xyz b. for the lazy
body3 ie: 1.personal a.xyz according to (?) b. the truth
review( b1, b2, b3 recap)
conclusion (tie in with intro)
... might work out for you.
ultimately if you were talking about "bessie"
1.... gold is good it's shiny, makes no noise, and is a strong element...
2... unlike bessie, a cow...
3... cow is animal,beef, useful...
4... bessie is not bacon, and I like jerky
5...bessie is from cali, happy cow, cheese
6.1..cali... is great because...
.2..happy cows...
.3..cheese...
7...bessie is from cali, happy, cheese
8... bessie says moo, and thats golden

well i spoke to my prof. and so now I am simply doing MOTO GP because nobody in my class knows about it
and information on the topic is more readily available

Superbikeplanet has reports and articles not history... try the AMA website but you should know a bit already... try to learn the AMA racing history is a big task and needs a lot of reading, flat track, Motocross, SX, Road racing, dragster, salt lake flat speeds, hillclimbing baja....

"On any given Sunday". Superb movie about motorcycle racing in America.
Also, check out your local library and check through their microfiche archives of motorsports magazines. Even if they don't go back very far, there's still stories on the history of the sport and if you look at the ones from the '80's you'll get good info on the '50's and '60's era.
