For the second time in 2 years, I've managed to total a Triumph at the hands (hoofs) of a deer. This time it was a nice size buck. I'm sure everyone knows this, but it's a real reminder. Be careful in the early morning hours and when the sun is setting. Seems the deer get stupid in the fall at these times.
The bike is in decent condition with mostly body damage. The insurance company did total it but I bought it back and was able to keep the clean title. Be careful out there.

I ended up with a broken collar bone and a few other minor injuries.

Dude, glad you're ok. Hope you recover quickly. [drink]
At least winter is coming, so you can start rebuilding (and upgrading!!) your bike.
that's quite the purple boobie.
well, best of luck with the healing, and the rebuild. [thumbsup]
Wow, Glad you are ok for the most part.

wow... i agree... looks sore.
feel better soon!
Get well soon... could have been worse.
I was driving through the MN countryside last night (in my car), and during my 100-mile trip I had 3 encounters with deer. I braked / avoided 2 of the deer, and the third was lurking near the road when I was stopped at a rural intersection. Best of all, the last deer encounter occurred on a divided highway in the Minneapolis suburbs. [roll] Deer aren't confined to the 'countryside' folks.
I do not like to ride my Duc during this part of the season... :-\
Once hit a deer in my parents' subdivision at about 5 in the morning. Remembering what that did to a big car, I can only imagine what it could potentially do to someone on a bike. Thanks for the warning and get well soon.

That looks painful and please stop posting your gay porn on this site.
Glad you are ok. Around my area at night I am always paranoid about deers and such jumping out in front of me.

Are you sure you hit a deer and didn't just get a...purple nurple from one of your friends? [cheeky]
Looks painful, hope you heal up soon and glad it was not any worse.
frickin' deer... they are all over the hill country here and run around the neighborhoods [puke]
This is why I always carry an eagle in my tankbag.

Deer aren't confined to the 'countryside' folks.
I've found them to be a whole lot MORE common in the near-in suburbs than out in the countryside -- riding in the DC suburbs in the Fall (or really any time of year) meant backing off a notch or two, since there were deer everywhere. For a couple of years i had a very productive treestand up (for bowhunting) with Northern Virginia subdivisions visible through the woods on two sides.
I was starting to get complacent about deer after the move to Arizona (while keeping an eye peeled for javelina, and elk when I'm a little further north near Williams & Flagstaff) until a couple of weeks ago I watched three splendid bucks go crashing through a neighbors yard and clattering across the street. Time to go back on alert, I guess.
Glad you got away with injuries that should heal and also that you were able to save your Triumph from getting the "total loss" or "salvage" title attached to it as well. I always wondered what would happen when a sportbike crossed a deer. Your bruise looks just as purple as the one I received when I went down. Damn. Makes me think of grape jelly.
Good luck with a speedy recovery for you and the Triumph.
Sorry for not getting back here sooner. I thought i'd get email notification when there was a reply.
Gear I was wearing was a hgc carbon ac12, some tourmaster winter gloves, fieldsheer suit which I can't recall the name of, and a set of sidi boots which i'm glad bit it since I hated those things (water proof my ars)
I'm not sure what i'm doing yet with the bike. Might sell it as a track bike to someone since it still runs great and none of the bits that matter are bent. Might just fix the damage and sell it or keep it, or high on my list is to turn it into a street triple. I have 3 bikes and am not sure I really need that many anymore. This is 2 deer hits in 2 years and it kind of makes me rethink what I'm doing being married with 2 kids and all. I was doing to the tune of 25000 miles a year on my bikes. I believe those days are over.
The video of the eagle is the best.
Sorry to hear about your accident, get well soon!
