i recently paid $75.00 for a oil change: the shop initially said $40 + $9 for oil change and filter, respectively. once done they charged $20 additionally for 4 quarts of oil and with tax and shop fee, it came out to the said price. isn't this too pricy for just a oil change? i guess i need to do it myself from now on....
Not really, actually I think I paid quite a bit when I did it by myself. Filter was around $14, oil was like $10 per quart i use full synthetic. So it was almost $60 with tax just for the parts. Then you have to drain it and take the old oil to the gas station. Doing it was super easy though because of how exposed the engine is. But if you talk with other people here on the board they might differ in the type of oil they use. I'm sure you could probably do it yourself for around $40.
To buy 4 liters of Motul 300v and a filter costs me over $150 here in Japan, and I have to change it...so no, I think you got a great deal! Plus they did it for you!

Not bad.... The oil I buy is $52 plus tax plus the filter ....
That's about what I paid when I did it myself.
But, they should not be charging you more than 10% more than the estimate without asking your permission...

good point, i wasn't too worried about the actual price, especially after they handed me the breakdown of prices, but i was put-off by them not informinng me when i initially called about pricing.
I just did an Oil Change:
Filter - $14
Drain Plug Crusher - $0.95
Spectrum Semi Synthetic - $40
Total - $54.95
Pride of DIY - unmeasurable
Apparently I'm the only one who uses non-synthetic.
My oil changes are <$30.
I had mine changed recently too. Motul full synthetic. New oil screen, filter, crush washer and all that jazz.
Cost me $120 at the dealership. Not many shops around here to choose from, didnt feel like worry about it myself.
I did the math, and with the oil they used, plus filter, the new screen, and shipping costs, i was looking at about saving 20 bucks if i did it myself...
Let them do it.
Fully Synthetic, Mobil 1 Car oil - $30.
Ducati OEM filter - $15
Dry clutch = savings
@ $15 for a filter
@ $9/quart for synthetic x 9 qts

Nine quarts? Is this for more than one bike?

I figured I'd get a rise... ;)
Mobil1 4T is $9/quart at Advance Auto, and I use the Perf-Form filters I buy in a case at $7 each, which works out to about $45 with tax & shipping.
