Title: Hillsboro run DEC 7.
Post by: calscrazy on November 15, 2008, 06:22:37 PM
the concensus is hillsboro on the 30th so here we go. we will meet at mansfield high school. take 360 south until you reach broad st. (when you see the stadium) and go right. there is a race trac to fill up at about 1/4 mile down and the school is maybe 100 yards away from the race trac. we will meet there at 10:00 a.m.  [moto]

the route will be 157 south to 916 west to 81 south to ranch road 67 west to 171 south to hillsboro. it is a short ride of only maybe 1 1/2 to 2 hours. some twisties yes but nothing demanding. i am not the next casey stoner, will, scott, ron or cdc so if someone quicker wants to lead i am good with that. i will investigate another funner route but the last time i was on that road it was tore up by drilling trucks. the route home will be up to you as i know some may have family in town that weekend you will need to get back to. i usually take a short ride up 35 and then onto 66 to 157. for the dallas people this will take you right to 67 and 66 is pretty nice except one corner.

remember it is just a short ride w/ lunch in the middle. brian you have no option your arse will be there so i can buy some birthday lunch. better figure out where you want to eat. i don't want to hear "why do i have to decide?" or "i don't care!"

hope to see as many as possible there!!  [thumbsup]

I will be out of town and will be back that weekend.  Not sure if we are arriving Saturday or Sunday.  I'll check with the "DECIDER".

I resent being lumped together with the fast guys.   ;D

Hell. I can't even keep up with that young kid what's his name, yeah CJ, that's it.

If I make it, I'll be happy to run sweep though.

Just hope my b-day weather curse skips this year. It would be a nice break from the past 40 or 50 crummy b-days I have had weather-wise. Enough is enough! [thumbsup]

Darn it man... I'm in town but flying out on Saturday to be arriving in Baghdad on the 30th )-: >:(

I graduated from Hillsboro and my suggestions for Lunch are both on the interstate just south of town.
One is a BBQ place beside the Loves Truck Stop... about Mile Marker 362. A really good Central Texas BBQ joint IMO. If you want to go on the cheap buy a loaf of bread and buy it by the pound
FM road 310 comes into the I-35 here and you could hit 310 from the northern hill country of the Lake Whitney area.

The other place is the Turkey Shop which is in Abbot, home of WIllie Nelson, just another couple of miles south of there. Can't miss it and it is on the East side of the interstate.
Leaving out of the Turkey Shop to the east is FM1242 and you can take it back up toward the metroplex

NOW IF you were not doing this on a Sunday I'd say the WIlliams Drive-In and a Wolf Burger! For ruture reference this is located at the Y in town where Hwy 171/22 intersects 77/81 just south of the Main Square.
I believe the WOLFBURGER TO BE ONE OF THE BEST BURGERS ANYWHERE

The main Square has a couple of small independent places there and I believe one of them is an Italian place with a decent reputation!
The Square is pretty and would make for some nice photos ops of the Bikes around the Historical Courthouse. The road coming in from the west comes in from Lake Whitney and better riding roads

GOOGLE MAP ROUTE
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=109929340883597391200.00045cb0e1ba25eac72ea (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=109929340883597391200.00045cb0e1ba25eac72ea)
I used to ride from Hubbard to the Metroplex as a 22 year old on a XS1100 this is roughly the return route through the M Towns as I called them, Malone Milford, Mertens, Mansfield.
One particular day as I was running late I made it from Hubbard to Downtown Arlington in exactly 1 hour, halve of which was at dark. This is before the roads were "Straightened Out" Also before a lot of the traffic in south arlington

Temps for Sunday are 39-57 with winds of 15-25 gusting to 35mph out of the Northwest... oh yeah, mostly cloudy. Better than usual for my crummy birthday weather. :P It's only fitting that now I am sick on top of everything else. Weeee, what fun. [bang] Looks like this Tuesday it will be sunny and 73! You'd think the weather gods would throw me a bone occasionally and let me have some sunny 70 degree weather on my b-day once in a while. At least let my friends have some nice riding weather for a change. [moto] Ya'll have fun if you go! I'll keep watch to see if this gets rescheduled.

Hey C ! just got back from Thanksgiving with family today and saw that you moved Hillsbro ride.  I couldn't go tomorrow because we are having the other end of the family over for Thanksgiving IV "The Reckoning" - I reckon Cyclonette must have the life insurance paid up so I'll eat Thanksgiving repeatedly ! [laugh]

It looked to me like you were hoping this ride could be a way we could have some fun for Fastwin's BDay !  I think that is still a great idea but maybe he could be pinned down & some flash beers poured down him asap !  [beer]  Sorry you will not be at the  [bacon] vodka party Fastwin what works for a BDay lunch for you this week ?

I'll keep my eye on the 14th for the Hillsbro ride - that actually might work !!  [thumbsup]

Ahhh, is it just me or are we now shooting for the 7th not the 14th for the Hillsboro ride? By the way, I am not a big birthday person. Everyone's b-day is important to me but not mine. I am one of those people. It drives Jennifer crazy but that's just the way I roll. When you realize you were an accident and you were the youngest and everyone reminds you of that, it tends to take the "special" out of the day. Just saying...  :P No biggie. At this age I am way used to it. All I want to do tomorrow, besides stupid planned family stuff :P, is fit the seat covers on my new pick up. Is that too much to ask? Oh yeah, and fit up the new Sato rear sets on the RC-51! That was my b-day present to myself!! [thumbsup] [moto] Looking forward to this spin if all else works out!!

You should be well preserved and in perfect condition after a night of drinking  [bacon] vodka !!  I think I will be too hung over to hang on !  [bacon]

Ah, I am getting tired of this but I probably cannot do this ride either. I have been informed that Sunday is the day we are getting our Christmas tree and decorating it. Stupid me.:P This is according to "she who must be obeyed" so I am assuming it's etched in stone. [bang]

i get lucky i don't decorate inside. tree or anything because i say just put some of that fake snow on it. you waste four hours putting it up and four hours taking it down. that is 8 you never get back. besides that why put up a tree if we are going to virginia to see the in-laws.  ??? not a scrooge but we aren't even here on that day. like halloween. why decorate the house if the only kids that come by i already know and have seen it the entire week b4.

That's Woman's work!  Christmas decorating is the traditional time of year when the husband vacates the house or holes up in a convenient hidey-hole.  Upon his return all the trees are up and the packing boxes are just being stashed away.  You can't let Christmas spirit ruin the holidays for you.  [thumbsup]

OK, it's not Nobama, but you are officially the President elect in my book! My plan is to hide at my East Texas farm for the duration of December which  is my main concern since Jennifer has no ability to say no to anyone or anything, regarding holiday shit. So our calender of events becomes more insane every day. How much holiday crap does someone have to put up with? This all can't end soon enough. Don't mean to sound like Scrooge but damn! Ahhh, Merry Christmas.

Well, it's a good-news, bad-news situation for me on this one; bad news is I won't be able to make this trip  [bang]   Good news is my Mom is FINALLY being moved from ICU back to her own digs this Saturday after having heart surgery last month (she ended up with "complications", i.e., pneumonia) so I'm cruising down to Austin on Sunday for a visit... I'm surprised my car can't jut drive itself down there - it really should know the way by now  [laugh]

Cher, good news that she made it out of the germ infested hospital!

Unlikely for me to make the run, but never know.

Again, for the record, I can't make this. Tomorrow is the big family "buy the Xmas tree, put it up and decorate everything" day. If I went on a ride tomorrow I would be served divorce papers on Monday. :P She Who Must Be Obeyed etched this in stone a while back. The TV weather just said it should be a little warmer tomorrow than it was today and not too windy at all. Monday will be 70 but very windy, then it goes in the dustbin. Cold front Tuesday PM, maybe rain and more wind for a few days. Tomorrow's cooler but less windy day is the pick of the litter. [thumbsup] Heck Chris, even if you have no takers you have to go for those of us that can't go. Take one for the Gipper! [clap] Have fun, be safe! Post up after ride reports.

One of my New Year's resolutions is to RIDE MORE, @#^!%it, so I'm going make more of these group rides!  Especially these trips south...

I'd love to go guys but as for reasons I had to leave early last night I will have to work on Kitchen Points today. It looks to be a great weather day albeit windy this afternoon. Have a great time and watch out for the hung over idiots out there.
