First of all, what is the need for this squarish can located on the left side of the engine just behind the radiator ??? Is it a reserve water bottle for my long rides [moto]? Any info or recommendations appreciated. I'v seen others without it so I was thinking about removing it.... Thanx
It's a carbon canister to catch overflow gasoline. Only folks in Cali need to have it on the bike.. though I bet most remove it. Otherwise, rip that bugger off. There's directions in the How To section - look for Emissions canister.
spam is good :D

The wrenches are out and that sucker is headed for the "pantry".....
Sweet, I wondered what that was as well! Looks like another project to work on..............once I get mine back from the dealer with hopefully good brakes! [thumbsup]
There are a couple of hoses that route back to the TBs IIRC, Where they come off need to be capped. Then you are left with the bracket because it also mounts the horn. I was able to remove the bracket, mix & match leftover parts and mount the horn up out of the way on the hor. head using one of the original bracket mounting holes.
If you do replace the canister with a can of Spam, please post the pictures.

A couple? Does that = 3? I unplugged 3 hoses ( 1 small, 2 larger). Plugged em all up and tucked em away. I'm safe right? And yea, I too mounted horn to head [thumbsup]
if it's the same as the 696, one of those hoses was your tank vent hose. you need to unplug that one and y-connect it to the tank overflow hose. if you block it you build up gas fume pressure in your fuel tank. probably not good.

As Yuu mentioned, theres a thread in the Tutorials/How to section that has great information.

Below the first picture is the information about what to do with the hoses.
