Title: In time, will the M1100 become a good modding platform?
Post by: breakdown on November 23, 2008, 10:38:28 PM
What do you guys think?

In time, do you think the new M1100 will be as good of a platform for making a really personalized monster or not?

Yeah No doubt.

I am sure the people who dont currently like it will love it after people start personalizing it.

That's one of the major tenants of the whole Monster line, so yeah it will absolutely be a well modded bikes.

I think so.  In fact, I can't wait to see a tastefully modded one.

When people have a passion for their toys, they come up with cool mods for them.

It's all about the money. Ducati HAD to make it a receptive modding platform. Money is in extras  [thumbsup]

I think they made it look like shit on purpose, so we will spend thousands to make it right.  ;D

i think there is some truth that, seems like its more with the car makers.  i remember when the PT cruiser came out it had ugly plastic bumpers, and i remember thinking, "why wouldn't they paint the bumpers on a brand new frickin car?"  few years later, bumpers are body color.  i think they do that crap just to have something relatively cheap to change, like look! its a whole new car!

I'm sure it already is a great modding platform. In a couple of years I will be very interested in picking one of these up. I already like the look of the 1100 with the Ex-Box on it, and if somebody releases a nice tail chop or mod for the rear end I will mostly be happy. I can certainly live with the rest of the cosmetic changes.

Yeah, I think it´s a good platform for modding.. a lot of things are shared (as usual) across the current and past Ducati line-up. SSS, Wheels, forks, motor etc.

I´m sure there are a lot of companies busy churning out aftermarket kit for this bike.

+1 That would be my first mod.  Better headlight and I might be able to get over my 696/1100 aversion.  I may even be able to appreciate a double headlight setup or maybe the VRod headlight on the new Monster.

That's good to hear.  I have a Hyper S right now and I'm going to be trading it in for a M1100S in the new year.

I like riding the Hyper but I'm not in love with the way it looks.  The new Monster, on the other hand, I absolutely love.  I have a red/red 1100S on order.  I'll be changing out the exhaust right away; not sure if I'm going with Termi though.  I want to see what some of the other companies come up with.  I'd also like to do the wheels the same way they are on my Hyper; black with the red pin stripe.  A tidy tail will also be one of the first things done to the bike as well.

Other than those few mods, I'm not really sure what else to do.  I'd like to keep this bike for a while and mod it to suit what I like.

Headlight would be my second mod. First I would powder coat the rearsets so they are more integral with the rest of the bike, that slash of silver they make just doesn't look right. Totally dig the ten spokes and SSS on the 1100. If you get the Termis be sure to paint or remove the heat shields on the front of the cans, I see them with the carbon cans and the alumiunum looks dinkie hanging out up there with all the purty stuff, carbon cans shouldn't need them anyway. Cool possiblity would be to by extra tank panels, you could change colors and the bike whenever you feel like it.

Some clipons & rear sets and you could have a pretty good bike for the occasional track day [thumbsup]

I think it will be a great platform, I have been a fan of the new bike since it came out.
Of course there are parts I like and dislike but then that is true of any bike.
That's why we mod them to make them how we'd like to see them look.
So I am keen for a new M1100 but I am also searching for a track bike, so we'll see what comes first.

Don the little 620 doesn't have the poke between the corners. People are leaving me like I am on a Sunday ride with a pie strapped to the back.
A.K.A. a Goldfish care package for Bron from the pie at Robinson.
