Title: Toys For Tots Ride
Post by: DRKWNG on November 27, 2008, 09:08:03 AM
Hey guys, anybody planning on making this ride?

http://www.sbuhi.org/calendar/pdf/Poster2008.pdf (http://www.sbuhi.org/calendar/pdf/Poster2008.pdf)

Think it would be pretty cool to have a couple of loud Ducatis show up.   [evil]

I know, don't you just hate those pesky little things?  But look at it this way, we could actually use this ride as a convenient excuse to get close enough and kick them all in the shins.

parade-style madhouse.

short route through waikiki, def not your style if you don't like to be movin'

but it's for a good cause.

iirc you can bring a toy, too.

If you don't care about overheating your engine and riding stop & go in 1st gear then it's OK. Think North Shore traffic. Just sayin'.

I don't think anyone's bike is as loud as some of the custom/cruiser types that will be blattin' along, which will be mainly what you see

maybe if we all ran straight pipes...

Yea, I know.  But it never hurts to try, right?

We used to go on this ride every year. Then realized, hey we can just drop off toys at the designated dropoff locations. No need to ride in protective gear in the hot sun in gridlock going 1 mph on an overheating bike with a 900 pound clutch pull, while we inhale Bubba's exhaust from in front of us while he needlessly (and constantly) revs his 8,499,300 dB chopper motor while we are stopped, at the same time trying not to get hit by Evel Knievel on the F4i pulling out of line every 20 seconds trying to do 3 inch wheelies.

For Harley peeps who regularly travel at 1 mph and have no concept of protective gear, it may be bearable.

It may be worth it to marvel at the sheer spectacle. But if it is just for the good deed of donating toys, there are better alternatives.

Heheh and trust me, Ducs are not loud. Even without any pipes at all. Your concept of loud will be redefined by the customs & choppers.

one of my coworkers (who kinda helped get me into riding) builds bikes...

I know loud.  ;D

running just the headers on the chick bike were pretty dang loud. for the displacement, anyway lol def. louder than ben's bike when it only had the udder on.

:edit: had the thought on saturday to maybe just ride down, drop off toys, and check out the bikes, but not join the ride. another coworker asked me if I was gonna go, so we were talking about it for a bit

That's a possibility.  The more I think about the actual ride, the less appealing it sounds.

Yea, but it would be pretty cool to see all those bikes.  What say we all meet up, drop of a few toys (no Tristan, furry hand-cuffs are not the sort of toys they are looking for) and then have beer?

So does anyone want to try to make a go of this?  Even if it is just to show up and see it kick off, think it would be cool.

Yep, this Sunday.  Tell Jen that you have been commanded by the lord himself (that's right, I'm talking about Loki) to attend.
