Some of you might remember the guerrilla sign project we did after Desmostro crashed on Tomales-Petaluma Rd:

Well, we took a ride today and noticed that the sign was gone....yes, gone. All of our hard work, passion, and risk down the drain. I'm not sure if the sign died of natural causes, or if it was taken down by some county type, but that corner is once again dangerous. Alfonso almost crashed my Monster (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=15743.0) there today.
So I ask the MOB: are you up for another guerrilla signage project? Shall we once again try to slow people down as they approach the most heinous corner in norther CA? This time, I say we buy a proper road sign and anchor it in cement with a steel pole!
UPDATE
We made it! You guys donated enough to get a new sign, pole, and cement. Good work!
Desmo Q,
For those of us who don't know exactly where you are talking about...can you do a Google map?
I ride up there almost every weekend...curious as to where this may be.
Thanks

That's what was there before. I'm thinking that a metal pole would be harder to cut down.

Exactly what I was thinking. We'd need to get a few people to pitch in. We tried that last time, but few people contributed...so we rolled our own ;D
Why not petition for a legal sign this time?

Someone tried taking it up with the county last time, and apparently ran into a load of flak.
Perhaps a Guerilla Marketing sign...
"X people have died here because the county wont put up a sign"

I'm in for some coin too, which should put us over $50. A 30x30 multi-curve sign (http://highwaytrafficsupply.com/images/regulatory_signs.html/W1-3r.jpg) is $58.61 and 18x18 35mph advisory sign (http://highwaytrafficsupply.com/images/regulatory_signs.html/W13-1.jpg) is $27.93. The way I have it figured:
Item | Cost | Tax | Extension |
30x30 multi-curve sign (http://highwaytrafficsupply.com/images/regulatory_signs.html/W1-3r.jpg) | $58.61 | $4.98 | $63.59 |
18x18 warning sign (http://highwaytrafficsupply.com/images/regulatory_signs.html/W13-1.jpg) | $27.93 | $2.37 | $31.30 |
4x4 pressure-treated post | $15.00 | $1.28 | $16.28 |
cement | $8.00 | $0.68 | $8.68 |
Shipping........$30 or so?
So we're looking at around $110-$120 for materials.
Donated a bit. We can't have a road hazard :o !

I'm not sure we'd garner a lot of sympathy.
"Yeah so when we creat that ride at anything over on 80, it's really hard to make the corner we can't see here in this 40 MPH zone...."
Their solution might just be an LEO with a radar gun. It'd make them money instead of costing it.

Great idea, but our situation doesn't involve an unscrupulous rebate scam, like most of their stories.

We could claim we bought a sign from Nigeria and they never sent it.
We're up to $70!
$ent.
The sign is ordered!
I went with a simple multi-curve sign, with no speed advisory:
I figure that the lack of an advisory MPH will attract less attention.
Update: the sign has arrived. Guerrilla activities to commence soon [evil]
a "help keep 2009 Safe & Healthy" trip new years day?
I for one will not be working Jan 1, and will most likely be sober & asleep by 10 on NYE...
pathetic, I know.
I'm riding NY day, but we may be able to do it after that. I need a few things:
1) A post hole digger (to borrow)
2) A co-conspirator
How bout I ask my wife to meet us with the sign... I'll let you know how that goes... she is way cool, but this should be a pretty good test of a. her coolness and/or b. my cluelessness...
As for the post hole digger, don't know anybody with one, but Big4rents comes to mind... scratch that, $55 for 4 hours (gas powered)
I have a buddy on the peninsula that may be able to borrow one for a day or so... he's gonna get back to me...
to be continued...
either way, in for a ride.

The post hole digger doesn't need to be the powered variety. Last time we used the manual variety:

Crap. I just opened up the package, and it looks like they shipped me the wrong sign. I have a call into them, but they're not back until 5 January. Our guerrilla project will have to wait.

Nah. Just one too many squiggles (http://www.ricesigns.com/pictures/W1-5L.gif) in the line. DQ only ordered one squiggle (http://www.ricesigns.com/pictures/W1-4R.gif). I don't know why he didn't order the one with the speed advisory (http://www.ricesigns.com/pictures/W1-2a.gif).

One day that sign just might save my sorry arse ;D
UPDATE
The correct sign has arrived! I'm going to mount it to a pressure-treated 4x4 and then figure out when to do a little guerilla work [thumbsup]

I have some hands you can borrow but it might take alittle longer than a post hole digger. ;D

I have a buddy down on the peninsula with one that i can borrow...
I can go down & pick it up this week, could do Saturday, (can't do Sunday, unless I bring my daughter for a little vigilante initiation!) but I would need to be back in the city by 3:30 or so on Saturday... or if that doesn't work, I can drop it by your place, Joe, and can come by & pick it up Sunday evening, or whenever works...

I think we're a couple of weeks out on vigilante action. I'll let you know the plan when it materializes. And thanks!
DQ, just saw this, haven't been around lately. If you need more $$ for any other supplies, ping me. If the vigilante action happens on a weekend, I may be able to help.
