My stocks were BT 056's and the first rear was at about 8,300 when I caught a nail and its identical replacement lasted me to... I wanna say 17 or 18k before I saw cord.  It did square up, of course, but certainly took more than 5k to do so too noticeably.  I'm not help on the 16's though, sorry.  I've got about 4k on a Michelin Pilot Power 2CT and it's just barely squaring (it's a multi compound).

DONT!!!!!  Use the BT016 if you are squaring tyres.  MonsterGrrl has a set on her M900 and she's worn them out in 2000 miles...  Mind you, she's got plenty of meat left on the center, but these are hypersport tyres and unless you are putting your knee down regularly, you aren't going to benefit from the added stickyness, contrarilly, you are risking a cold temp spinup or other traction loss, so just don't do it.  You might consider the pilot road 2CTs???  I've worn out a set of these in 3000 miles, but it was 3000 miles of daily riding up and down the Crest, and again the centers are fine.  However these tyres are far more temp stable for in city riding, and I can tell you from experience that despite that, they don't push.  Mine didn't push on knee down corners, and they've never spun up on cold accel.  The only pitfall I ran into with them is that they are touchy about proper suspension setup.  I've chirped mine a couple times decellerating on a bumpy offramp because my compression damping was too hard.

So for lots of commuting with some canyon use?

Pilot Road 2CT (or even just pilot road normals!)
you might, if you seriously believe you are soo fast you'll be pushing tyres in all your GP style antics, consider regular Pilot Powers, or Dunlop Qualifiers, but these really are overkill right along with the BT016s, though I've have better luck with longevity on the PP's than the BT's.

For lots of canyon work and some commuting?
normal Pilot Powers or Pilot Road 2CTs

This is seriously underconsidered, but hypersport tyres don't work well cold.  They will cold tear, and worse, they'll puch and slide on you.  Even the PP's puch when they are cold, and they don't give a lot of warning in that regard.  Getting a more sport touring oriented tyre will offer better cold traction and better wet traction, and they are generally designed to give you a little forwarning if you are pushing too hard, though, as I've stated earlier, I've done some fairly highspeed corners on the Pilot Road 2CTs and they've never pushed a lick.

Hope this helps!!

I have a set on my M900 and I love em.  Cant comment on mileage though because I only have about 400 miles on them.

I have put about 4000 km on a set of 016's and so far I have been very impressed, they offer excellent grip, I can get amazing lean angles (not that I go to crazy on public roads, but on occasion I have needed to test the theory  ;D ) and I have found the tyre offers excellent feedback. and they are wearing well.

But most of my riding is commuting, I may be switch to a touring/sports tyre for my next lot of tyres, as I simply don't need that amount of grip, I commute every day on the bike, and the 016's are squaring a little.

And as our wet season is approaching soon, so for the best part of 2 months it just rains, So I am a little concerned with limited tread that is on the tyre, as Bridgestone did advise they cut back on the tread pattern to get more rubber on the road. I have tried it out during a couple of heavy rain storms and so far they have performed better than I thought, but 2 months of tropical monsoon rain are approaching, so it may be interesting.
