Soon life will a string of BBQs and rides. A lot of us are finishing up home improvements or dusting off the grills in anticipation of this year's backyard parties. So now comes the annual conundrum, what will I drink this summer? Gin and Tonics are a staple. Gimlets are wonderful. My brother in law makes a damn good margarita. And of course the beer will be plentiful (Pacifico is this year's watery summertime beer of choice). But what else? I need drink recipes/ideas. I've perfected a summertime drink I started working on last year. It goes like this:
1 1/2 oz Vodka
1 1/2 oz Grapefruit Juice
1/2 oz Cointraeu
juice of a quarter of a lemon
a splash of Campari (I use a half of a cap full)
Just put it all over ice in your shaker and shake the hell out of it. Pour into a sugar rimmed martini glass.
Please share the tastiest way you know how to get blasted.
Cheers.

mmmmmmmmm ouzo
I'm a fan of a good mojito. But, they're such a pain to make and are rarely worth it. I've made a modified version off a recipe from someone here that uses lots of citrus and is made by the pitcher. It comes out damn good.
Otherwise, I tend to stick with G&Ts. Last summer, I found a Brazilian booze over some C&C lemon (basically lemon soda) is damn good.
Run, Skip, and Go Naked (aka Skippy's)
<lots of variants to this recipe, we'll call this Butler University style>
- grab a large pitcher
- add six pack of light beer (doesn't really matter what brand)
- add the contents from a frozen lemonade cannister (found in the frozen section at the grocery)
- fill the empty lemonade cannister with vodka, dump into pitcher.
I know it sounds like a crazy ass mixture, but they are really good and will make the beast with two backs you up beyond normal eye sight.
Sounds like a hell of a mix Cyrus!
Homemade strawberry wine. Pop cork, pour, enjoy
Red Hook Summer Rye beer
Rum on the Rocks
Jimmy Buffett's Perfect Maragrita
JM
rum and tonics - a good sunday afternoon beverage
rum
tonic
lime
drink
enjoy
...as with most tonic drinks, you should really start with a good rum
I found a bottle of Pisco the other day. And experience tells me that these will sneak up on you:
Pisco Sour
1 1/2 ounces ABA Pisco brandy
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
1 ounce simple syrup
1 small egg white
Garnish: Angostura bitters
Instructions
Measure all ingredients except the bitters into a mixing glass. Shake well for at least 10 seconds, to emulsify the egg white, and strain into a chilled martini glass. Drop the bitters on the surface of the drink to create a circular pattern. Drag a toothpick through the droplets to swirl.
The egg white is optional if you don't want the hassle.
Cheers.

It will make the beast with two backs you up a lot quicker then you think, be careful if you decide to make it.
Last time I had them was when I went on a bus trip to the Kentucky Derby from Indy in 2003 (last exam was the day before).
By the time we reached the outskirts of Louisville, everyone was so make the beast with two backsed up.
It is an odd combination, but tastes really good. The beer takes out all the acidity of the lemonade
i got drunk from a pitcher of beer/lemonade/vodka cocktail last summer. it was good. [thumbsup]
One of the best summer time drinks - really refreshing when it's hot
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_Mule
Has to be served in the copper mug - not that easy to find but worth it, trust me... I've never bothered with the bitters & the lime juice from a wedge is all you need & optional at that (1 part lime juice is way overkill)
My mix is typically:
copper mug
lots o' ice
fill 1/2 vodka
the other 1/2 ginger beer
stir good & enjoy
Oh yea - and this one is called a "Drive-by Shooting" - the best "jungle juice" I've ever tasted
Tastes just like hawiian punch so will F you up too becuase people drink way too much not realizing it's all booze
sloe gin
southern comfort
blackberry brandy
banana liquor
amaretto
spiced rum
orange juice
pinapple juice
...all the booze is equal parts and the juice is equal to the booze
e.g. I usually mix this one by the cup, so if I poured 1 cup ea of the booze I'd pour 3 cups OJ & 3 cups pinapple juice
Ice & serve ~ by the shot, glass, pitcher, bucket, whatever
scotch
glass...
[drink]
oyster shooters with vodka at Brophy Brothers with friends.

ah yes... i've had similar concotions. sober to sideways before you know it. [thumbsup]
my own punch recipe:
* 1 bigass cooler
* shittonne of ice
* 6 2L 7up/sprite/whatever...
* 6 pink lemonade concentrates
* 12pk smirnoff ice
* 1L vodka
* 1L everclear
* 1 pint bourbon
we'd put it on the counter, and serve it into solo cups with a gravy ladle, or on one occasion a coffee pot. the more "fly by night" the better. it tastes like somewhat dry pink lemonade, and as i said earlier "sober to sideways before you know it." [evil]
it's a party drink, for sure. it doesn't really go bad, so fear not if it doesn't all get drunk. [beer]
Papa Ghandi:
2 Parts gin, 1 part tonic
Muddle with fresh mint & ice
Strain and serve straight up
It gets it's name from being half Hemingway (Mohito) and half Gin & Tonic
Tasty!

At the U of I we call that pink panty droppers (with pink lemonade of course)...but ours has a cube of beer, a gal of monarch and add as much frozen pink lemonade as you want. It is great for a big group [beer]
I'm a fan of a good 'ol G&T. If you haven't already, give Hendrick's a try.
Or there's always Sam Summer [thumbsup]

Hey Ash - knew you'd like that one & appreciate the authenticty of having the proper glass (mug in this case) [beer]
use Old Tyme ginger beer if you can find it - it's got a nice snap to it and not too syrupy sweet like some of the Jamacian stuff

mmmm... sounds great!
don't forget to shake it while you shake it ;D
Caipirinha
2 tsp granulated sugar
8 limes wedges
2 1/2 oz cachaca
I am training for this run and have been since April and last weekend on Sunday after our training day we had a few of these. They are beyond yummy, of course the best I have ever had were in Spain.
Dark & Stormy:
2 oz. Gosling's Black Rum (or any dark, spiced rum)
8 oz. ginger beer (the spicier the better, to my taste)
Serve over ice. Was the big riverside hit of the 2007 summer kayaking season with my paddling buds back East.
And a good gin martini makes me happy pretty much no matter what the season...
Home made horchata and rum.
Mojitos made with mint from the garden.
This probably has a name but I have no idea.
Tequila in a glass with ice, shake of salt, squeeze half a lime and fill with squirt.
I can drink those all day and then fall over.

that sounds pretty tasty.
my "drink whenever, wherever, and how ever many" choice is a well made whiskey sour.
I prefer this dark and stormy... it's a little stronger.
Dark and Stormy:
Good dark rum (I use Appletons Select)
Good ginger beer
Four lime wedges
Pack a glass with ice, pour in about 1/3 - 1/2 of the way with the rum
Fill almost to top with ginger beer
Squeeze in 3 wedges and discard
Wipe the fourth around the rim and mix this wedge into the drink.
other than G&Ts,
i like a mint julep made this way:
splash of simple syrup (boiled water and sugar)
fresh mint leaves
ice
bourbon
also a simple margarita:
1oz Cointreau
2oz good Tequila
shake with ice and pour in salted glass
A lazy man's margarita
1 Big Ass Blender
1 can frozen limeade concentrate
1 bottle of beer (Budwiser works best)
Tequila - use the limeade can
Ice
Think I'm too young for this group...
Red Bull and Vodka!!!
Good Vodka Grey Goose or Chopin.
Gonna try the pink lemonade stuff at some of the parties I make it to this year...
"Lord there ain't no cure for the summertime booze..."
Had a day off yesterday, had some ouzo, tried a "Monster" (see page one). Slammed!
Vodka Press:
vodka
club soda
7-up or other lemon lime soda
ice
wedge of lime
Enzo,
If you and 'Belle want to ride down to Santa Barbara for our 4th of July party I'll make you all the vodka presses you can handle. And then one more. [thumbsup]
