Title: Propsed 100% Tax for European Motorcycles
Post by: livefastdiefun99 on December 08, 2008, 09:58:03 AM
This would suck for any member of the motocross/offroad/supermoto community.  Hopefully the AMA can use some of their "levereage" (yeah right) and try and get something done, or you may not see many people riding a KTM, Husqvarna, BMW and other offroad models.  Who would pay $14-16K for a KTM? They are already the highest priced due to the Euro.  Doubling it would kill KTM.  Shouldn't affect Duati owners too much.

This tariff would also affect the on-road and scooter community:

"If U.S. officials impose the retaliatory tariff, it would double the price of a host of under-500cc on- and off-highway machines from brands such as Aprilia, Beta, BMW, Fantic, Gas Gas, Husaberg, Husqvarna, KTM, Montesa, Piaggio, Scorpa, Sherco, TM and Vespa."

That said, I suspect that it's all just negotiation tactics / political bluster...   [coffee]

This one might need a companion thread in the politics section...The talk of growth hormone beef and import tariffs should be there.  I'll make another thread there.
