Title: Yet another 696
Post by: Special K on December 11, 2008, 02:29:29 PM
Returning to motorcycling after a 20 year hiatus (yea, i know, midlife crisis time). Been heavy on the bicycling thing in between, so always on 2 wheels. Did the MSF thing to get back into it, perfect score-written test. 0 mistakes-skills test ( not bragging about skills; average at best, just had a good day).

Went to the dealer for something sensible and cheap like a suzie sv650, saw the new 696 and was smitten.
Had a couple of months with it now, 3000 miles, just starting to think about mods. If I do anything worthy I'll  post pics.

Really enjoying this forum. It has saved me from having to ask a lot of novice questions about living with a Duc.

Love cold weather riding ( with heated gear, of course). Don't mind the rain either. This represents a lifestyle change for me, cars are for snow and hauling stuff now. For my usual around town the Monster 696 is perfect.

Thanks for all the info and entertainment. Beer and doughnuts anytime.

I got the Dark myself, the flat black paint does it for me.

Already ditched the bikini fairing. I'm thinking of barend mirrors, like the look of stock mirrors just can't find a way to adjust them usefully that doesn't include a lot of my elbows. I also see the touring seat and oil cooler soon. Already have available luggage, might get saddlebags too. I'm thinking the tailbag and saddlebags are mutually exclusive?

Have to check back with dealer, see if I can hear Termi's in person, I'm thinking they're a must have.

Does removing the "rattail" give that stripe of water up your back in the rain? Only thing holding me back there.

pics soon.

I don't seem to have an issue with water on my back with the tail chop.
The termi's really make a big difference on the sound, not so sure about added horses though.

Congrats on the 696, I love mine. I've got the Termis and the sound is great - There was a thread a little while back,  Think it was entitled "I don't get the hype about the Termi's." Someone posted a video of a 696 w/ them that sounds awesome. Also, there's a great quote from Spidey there that explains why I'll always have them on any Duc I own.

From Spidey, 11/10/08:
Termis sound like God's having an orgasm.  Housepets explode into flame.  Women collapse in ecstasy.  Children bleed out of their ears.  Grown men sob hysterically.  Cops flee for their lives.
