Will it fit the jackets the same? We have Dainese Ducati jackets (men's '09 Meccanica 50 and women's IOM 44) Any idea whether this would fit these jackets?? Thanks!! |

You want to us the older model Dainese Wave G2. The one you have pictured will only fit some newer Dainese '09 leather Jackets. Dolph

I was thinking that the Ducati leather Jackets took (up to size EU58) G1 Dainese Protector and EU58 and larger took a G2. Dolph
They made or make 3 models (Shield Air, Wave, and Backspace) each in 2 sizes (G1 and larger G2.)
That's another question though, I've read conflicting size recommendations.
G1 = ladies , G2 men's...
G1 up to EU52, G2 for EU54 and up...
dammit that ducati meccanica jacket in new-for-'09 colors is so damn sweet. Definitely my 1st pick if money weren't an option.
happy with my black dainese santa monica though ;)
I just bought the G2 back shield for my new jacket. I asked the same questions to the sales person at the Dainese store, and he said the air shield is a new style and fits only newer style jackets and G1 and G2 are only the two different sizes it comes in.
The air shield is definitely much thicker than the wave shield and its square corners poke out of the jacket, but does not fit older jackets or new but lesser/non-performance style jackets.
It should fit your 09' meccanica jacket but not so sure about the IOM jacket . The jackets or the tags are definately labeled for fit with the air shield or not.
The Airsheild will not fit either of those jackets. You will still need to utilize the Backspace or Wave inserts.
Just to clarify for everyone and dispell some incorrect info. G1 and G2 only signifies men's or women's . ALL men's jackets utilize the G2 in either the Backspace or Wave, and ALL women's utilize the G1. Obviously you can fit a G1 into a men's jacket, but it will fit poorly with too much room and will not protect you properly in the advent of a get-off. We try to keep it as simple as possible.
The new Airshield will only fit a handfull of new 2009 Dainese jackets (not Ducati) and the main difference is in construction and size in comparison to the Wave and Backspace. It uses a multiple density honeycomb resin as well as foam and does away with the aluminum honeycomb used in the Wave. The thickness of the body is the same as the Wave, but is significantly wider (especially at top) giving it better coverage and making it impossible to fit into the pockets of older jackets.
Well that clears it up, thanks! I'll look for a couple wave inserts then. The pockets on these two jackets (even though the Meccanica is an 09) look identical in shape, just a longer pocket on the men's, which make perfect sense with what Dan is saying. Thanks again for info!
