Title: Google it
Post by: NAK3D696 on May 12, 2008, 05:43:59 PM
How does google prioritize its search engine?    When you type in ducati monster forum of course the DML is top the list.  I want to say DMF is 6 or 7 down.  Anyone  know how to boost it up the list?  Sounds stupid but thats how i found the dml...

google uses bots and statistics to determine ranking.

we were 20th last monday...now 6th or 7th.

I think we'll climb even more.

google searches based on inbound links and whatnot. so however many links there are out there TO the DMF that involve those certain words you typed in as search critea, compared to how many links are out there for OTHER forums or sites using those  SAME search words, will determine it's search rank / relevance, relative of course to the other sites.

got it?

Google is the one with the searchbots, not us (or any other site for that matter).  The standard ways that you improve your rankings is to have good meta tags (desc, keywords, etc), you submit sitemap.xml sitemaps to google so that their bot knows "how" to search your site, inbound links to your site from other "good" sites, also you just need good content.  Google indexes your content and that content (especially in the case of forums) can be a real gold mine.  Unfortunately, SMF (the forum software we and TOB use) is not very "indexable." VBulletin (the new TOB software) is much better in terms of google indexing, but there's hope that the currently-in-beta SMF 2.0 will address that issue.

So people need to post more of the topical / relevant threads like mods and repairs right?

Yes, this is always a great thing.  I think a lot of people probably found TOB by searching for "Ducati Clutch Install" or something like that.  If google had indexed that thread, it would show in the results, thereby bringing in new members.

So yes, if you have done some cool mods or have a good write-up on how to do anything, please post it up.

Someone should add the DMF in wikipedia.  [evil]

I has no accounts to do so.  I is too lazy.   [roll]

And, include a link to "the video".   [evil] [laugh]

"Somebody" already did that for the entries under "Ducati" and "Ducati Monster".   It takes about two minutes to "correct" a wrong link or an oversight like that.

If any of you Vertical Scope haters really want to get the word out, create a new entry for them, explaining the history of what they've done.  [evil]
