Title: Pocket bike anyone?
Post by: muskrat on January 10, 2009, 11:12:22 PM
anyone interested in getting a pocket bike and racing the neighboorhood in full leathers or even near the warehome where the streets are quiet?  I think it would be fun and surely someone here will make fun of me for this one but to hell with that.
We can recruit Lisa to put Ducati stickers all over the damned things.  Thoughts?

also, how about we set the speed limit to no more than 50 mph and about 5 hp? there are some on here that will run 70...so they claim

I'm biting the bullet today on the first website, their sale ends today and they look to have some cheap stuff on there compared to others.  are we going to limit these babies to 50cc?

Those look pretty cool but what can you really do with them? Do you set up cones in a parking lot or what? That's about the same price as a new Rock Band setup... hmmmmm. Which one would be more fun after some beers?

Sorry but those china bikes are going to need work all the time and they pretty dangerous, you have to go all over them, half of the bolts might be lose... they pretty slow too...

But if reliable and fast were real priorities, would we playing with duc's  [roll]

Soon, the grids could be as full as these, check out the tuck on the straights too.

You guys should really check out the TXminiGP http://www.tmgps.8k.com/ . The new schedule isn't out yet, but keep checking.

That is what I've been dabbling with. They do some pocketbike classes as well as the minimotard (kx65) and miniGP (ysr/nsr 50/60).
Blast. Cheap-ish.

try some real pocketbikes

or spent some extra money and get XR/CRF50 and stick some street tires to them... the sky is the limit with those little bikes from Honda

this one is already setup for street use

my 2 cents [coffee]

I'll keep looking on Craigslist or other but the China made bikes, from people I know in FL aren't all that bad anymore.  For the amount of time I'm going to spend on one and how many times it's going to get dumped it's alright by me.  I'll some Termis on it and vuala  :o

Yup, that was Denton. which race was that?

I just remember in Katy, there were a lot of pocket bikes. That was last year though. And, I didn't stay the whole day to see if they raced the pocket bikes. So, really I'm just talkin'out'my butt. Still, as the pics show, tmgp is way fun.

I've got a 49cc pocket bike frame with a bored/ported/polished/piped RM125F motor in it...
-it's a project I never got to finishing up (so many other toys to tinker with)
The body from it was cannibalized to make a sidecar for a dog we know.

This may be the motivation to work on that some more!   [thumbsup]

A CR/KX/RM500 is on my list of things I'd like to pick up someday.

A friend had a KX500 years ago and I took it for a ride... mind bending power!!!
I can only imagine what yours was like with street tires and a re-gearing for asphalt.
I'm sure it was much more fun than the relatively heavy SBK's!!!    [thumbsup]

Why did you get rid of something like that??...?

I have a friend who has bought several from here and says they are pretty good:

Best quality he has seen for the money but they have a hard time keeping them in stock. ( I guess that says something )

If you're interested in a group buy, contact Motogpfan. He's technically a pocket bike dealer. He can get you at least on the right track. Check this thread out:

if i could find one cheap i'd love another YSR50... and it would be a good first bike for my son as long as i can avoid thrashing it before then
