Title: Which knee armor under mc-jeans. US online source?
Post by: stopintime on January 17, 2009, 10:00:50 AM
I'm lazy or whatever, so I don't put on my protective pants for short commutes and shopping. My plan is to get Draggin jeans or Shift LoDown with the Kevlar reinforced areas, but they seem to come without knee armor.

I thought strap on knee armor would be alright, since these jeans are so loose and any permanent armor will probably slide away from an impact.

Suggestions?

BTW - where do I shop online for Draggin jeans (US)?

aerostitch had some on sale recently. I bought a new pair on ebay for $60. I'd also like to get some knee protection.

I've always been partial to T Pro although I don't have the strap on knee armor from them.   Looks like they have 2 available one straps on and the other is a knee sleeve.

[edit]  you can probably get this direct from the UK or EU since I believe its a British company.

Thanks,

I found Draggin at Aerostich, but MotoStrano have both Shift jeans and some very affordable EVS knee armor  [thumbsup]

I do that.  I'll have to get back to you on which knee/leg armor I got.  Personnally I prefer the ones that strap/snap on and are hinged with protection for the knee and shin.  Do a google search for motorcycle knee armor.  I always really liked the POD MX but damn $300 per leg.  I may still end up getting them later on.  Oh and you might get ribbing when you gear up at work.  Something about putting on my storm trooper gear or something to that effect.  [cheeky]

alpinestars and dainese both make some.
Or there's the Bohn adventure pants.

I'd stay away from the Icon knee/shins.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the Shift LoDown reinforced jeans from MotoStrano, $70.
Plus EVS Option Knee Guards, black with red foam, also from MotoStrano, $14.

I like the look of these Dainese protectors as well.  Looks like there's extra padding for the outside and inside of the knees.  Looks like they also come in different sizes as well.

I have those Dainese jobbers.
They fit well, and are comfy under jeans.
And they definitely feel as though they will do a better job of protecting me than the armour that came with my Cortech MOD denims.

Why avoid the Icon Field Armor? Same protection as the Dainese or others pictured above, good closure system, what's wrong with them?  I've had a set for almost 3 years and they have held up very well (in excess of 20k miles w/ them on), stayed in place and did their job perfectly for 2 low-speed get-offs, and they fit very well under my jeans.

YMMV, but I've had great results.

I am using Dainese 3X Leg Armor right now with Draggin Jeans.

I bought the Jeans online at the Draggin site since they did not have the design I liked in the US yet.

The Leg Armor is very comfortable. I sometimes walk around all day with it on since it does take a little while to get on and off.

Totally forgot about this thread.

But here's what I wear:
Alpinestars Bionic SX Knee Armor

I wear them over my jeans.  Too bulky to wear under.

I have the Icon knee protectors, but I find the straps annoying -- especially in hot weather.

The T-Pro "Limb tubes" look interesting because the are compression fit with one strap, and they might be much more comfortable.

The Icon gear from what I can find is not CE rated for anything.  While a CE rating is not the be-all and end-all, it does make me feel better about what I'm buying.  For the few bucks more the Dainese cost over the Icon, I'd go with those. The A* are a little more, but still a really good product.  My personal preference, and I don't consider myself a gear snob at all, my "main" jacket is a Cortech textile.

The 3X is for mountain biking, the Knee V for motorcycling.  They are 100% identical, but go through a different homologation process for the European market.

What a deal! I was considering getting some knee/shin guards for mountain biking and monstercycling and its like getting a 2 for 1!!

+1 for the Dainese Knee V. I sometimes forget I have them on. As a plus I also use them when snowboarding and riding trails. It is a little time consuming to put on.

Only issue I've had with them is my brother constantly calling me Robocop and hitting me in the shin with sticks, brooms,  etc.... He's a jerk like that.  [laugh] The things hold up well cause i never feel the hit.

I got the EVS posted earlier. They fit fine, but it seems I'll have trouble when I put my feet back up on the pegs. The Shift jeans I got are quite loose, but still won't slide easily over the knee guards. We'll see if they adjust or get more "slippery" after a while.

I have the Shift pants and they are great. But the lack of knee armor kinda sucks (as with most jeans). I have the Icon knee protectors but never wear them because they aren't comfortable at all and they slide down when walking around. Add in the fact that they are a little more annoying to put on than they should be and I can't recommend them.

Anyone who has the Dainese Knee V, have you tried the Icon ones? How do they compare? If I can find knee armor that is comfortable enough to wear 6+ hours while going to school, stores, etc I would be very happy and so would my knees if I ever take a fall.

I wore Icon Field Armor for Knees and Shins before I started wearing  Armored leather all the time.

They work w, 2 straps with Velcro closures. They are adjustable. I think I paid $65.   Dolph     :)

Here's a question about the jeans. Does anyone wear Rokker jeans ? Or are they only for Harleyriders and not done on a Monster ? I've tried the search engine but it gave no result for Rokker.

pretty much look the same as any other motorcycle jean on the outside.  I prefer the button fly over zippers myself, so that'd be a selling point for me.

I do like my Shift jeans tho, they have a gusset in the crotch so they don't bunch up weird when I saddle up, although the fabric isn't windproof at all so you get a cool breeze where you might not want it.

I don't think the Shift jeans are available in Europe so I'll have to settle for the Rokker jeans which is the next best thing in store here.

Thanks.

Probably... but i'd think going over the jean would lead to uncomfy bunching of the jeans under the pads.  Also, if the jeans have abrasion resistant materials - they are best placed on the outside

Hey guys, are EVS products good to go? I'm shopping around for knee protection right now. I need something without the shin guard because it will interfere with my boots. My Puma boots are high enough to cover/protect my shin.
Why are they so damn cheap?

Mine feels like they will stay in place. Only issue is that the knee part isn't strapped down - in the seated position it points upwards if worn over pants.
They might interfere a little with my SIDI boots, haven't tested that combo on the bike yet.
I don't mind cheap - they seem to be of good quality, as far as I'm able to tell.

Just imagine what your knee would look/feel like had you not been wearing them!

By your description of the event, it sounds as though nothing short of a full wrap-around CF brace could have perfomed any better under those conditions.

Heal up, and next time wear yer damn helmet  instead of carrying it on your wrist!!  [laugh]
