Title: Best way to drain the gas tank?
Post by: SaltLick on January 29, 2009, 08:13:59 AM
Guys whats the best way to drain the gas tank on a 2002 M750? Fuel injected. At this point i just need to drain the tank before i can start pulling the inerds out to weld it.  Help there is no petcock to stop the flow of gas ha ha. Im use to working on carb bikes with petcocks those bikes are easy to drain. I did searches on this subject but failed to find anything.

Boat shops have squeeze-bulb assisted fuel lines, for outboard motors.
They work quite well for siphoning most of the fuel out.

The tank will need to be bone dry for welding... I don't recall the best way for doing that.

Wouldn't time be a good method? After pumping out of the fuel. Remove the filler cap, and let it sit for a few days evaporating off??  Maybe a rubbing alcohol rinse?  Just a thought.

I believe the preferred method is to rinse it out with water after you drain it.  Then the water will evaporate.  Do not weld it with gas fumes still present.
