Audie Murphy is #1. I always knew he was a war hero and actor. What I didn't know was that he's a complete and total badass!
Dude totally downplayed his real exploits in the war because it was so over the top he figured audiences would think it was all embellished.
Mom, if you still can't find page two I can put it directly in the thread.
White death rules [thumbsup]

it was the same name as his book.
I looked up the Fin, he did in fact lose a lot of his face to the exploding bullet. It blew off part of his jaw and the side of his face. He made a full recovery and lived a long life.
My "grandfather" (actually my mom's ex husband's father) was in the British No. 2 Commando unit during the war. He got shot in the head by a German sniper in Italy. He made a full recovery and overcame partial paralysis - when I knew him he walked with a limp, the only evidence he got a bullet in his brain. He never spoke about his service before he died so I don't know much else. I believe he participated in the Vagso raid as well as the Italian campaign. I always remember his photo in uniform, with the sword and S S insignia on his beret.
