Title: Insurance?
Post by: Clickjack on February 08, 2009, 10:33:53 PM
I'm trying to find Insurance for my 2007 S4R T.   I can't afford to replace or repair so it has to be full coverage.  I had Progressive, but they re-evaluated Texas and upped the fees from 79 to 120 a month.  That's too much for me.

Who do you guys use?  What do you pay?

Thanks.

try Dairyland...they seem to be the carrier of choice for lots of people on here.  i used them for a little while and had no problems with you.  and if you have really good credit, they have a "gold" package you can qualify for, that i believe just gives you even lower rates.  i ended up switching over to esurance, because they gave me a much lower rate than dairyland...but i haven't had to test out their claims process yet (everyone seems to rave about their experience with dairyland claims).

progressive, on the other hand has been shit in my experience.  i had to use them when a drunk driver hit my car (and totaled it), and they were horrible.  then again used them when i totaled my monster, and they were once again horrible to deal with, that is if i could even get my claims agent/adjuster on the phone, which often proved to be impossible.

I went with Progressive based upon positive comments from friends and fellow workers.  I pay $240 a year full coverage.  I know, I was amazed by the price myself.  Haven't had to claim anything yet, so I unable to give a first hand account of their customer service.  Just thought I'd put this information out there for other people shopping around.

I hope this is not too much of a thread jack since the question, I assume, applies to <1000cc Monsters.

What types of rates are people getting on the bikes > 1000cc. I'm looking at some options, and they are pretty high.  :o

As I said to CJ recently, it's kinda nice being old and listening to the youngsters b#tch about ins. rates. There is no way I could afford insurance on all my bikes if I was 25 with a couple of tickets! Nothing like qualifying for AARP and a clean driving record. ;D They do abuse 20-30 year olds with 1000cc bikes on the rates.

Good luck on the insurance hunt. Half of mine are with Geico the others are with Progressive... and no, I have no claim experience. Sorry, not much help.

I'm with Farmers Insurance now, which seems to be reasonable rates & really good coverage, although I haven't had any claims. Yet. ;D

No. I didn't have comprehensive at the time, I do now. So it cost me a bionic neck and Busa bodywork and mirrors. >:(

Progressive's quote wasn't awful for my 2 bikes, but then I don't fit into the 20-30 year age group and both bikes are under 1000cc  (plus the chick factor).  But everyone was telling me that my insurance should go down after a year of riding (barring speeding tickets or other incidents).  Their quote had actually gone up, they seem to have a habit of doing that.  Next go around I will be shopping...

Just for clarity, Foremost is the motorcycle part of Farmers.
When you have comprehensive, it automatically adds 3k worth of insurance for add-ons/mods, plus gear, plus roadside assistance [thumbsup]

I'll put up another vote for Dairyland. I've never had a 'claim' with them but I did deal with them a little. They include $5000 coverage for aftermarket add ons.

I give a second recommendation on Foremost.

I was on Geico before, Foremost was fully half the cost.  I don't have my numbers in front of me right now, but it is pretty darn low for a full coverage 1000cc Sport Classic.

They classify Monsters (and now the Sport Classics) as "cruiser" bikes since they don't have fairings.  It was the reason I switched because the SC was soooo much lower than anywhere else.

My only gripe (in this world of interwebs) is that you have to actually call and speak to a human (ewwww!) to get a quote.  But, if you primary communication method is still verbal instead of keyboard & mouse, you should have no problem dealing with them.   ;)

about $100 more expensive than my Geico policy.  FYI, they do cover gear and after-market accessories though.

I've used state farm for my sportbike insurance. They were way cheaper than others I checked.
