Title: The life and death of Arlae.
Post by: Keshtak on February 13, 2009, 09:36:36 PM
Sometimes I get bored.  Now is one of those times.  So here is the life of a bike who's front forks got broken all too soon.  I don't expect anyone to read this. Or care about it.  But this Asian born whirring death machine...... she was my friend (and nearly did her job).

This bike was my pride and joy, and the Segway upon which I leaned forward slightly and rode until it's untimely fate at the hands of a six pack I didn't even get to drink, and a truck I never got to drive.  But such is life, and now I shall ride a duck into the sunset, and hopefully, much like dumping a really nice, kinda pretty girlfriend for a new, much hotter, b!tchier one, the former will soon be a distant memory as soon as I take the latter for a spin.  But I digress.  The proceeding is a photographic eulogy for Arlae the R1.

Let's start here.  I'm that speck in the distance on a road you should know.

Finally at the top.  I believe this is the high point of the Arlae's life.  August 13, 2008.

Contemplating that death trap.

So this starts my walkabout.  I-80.  Nowhere, WY.

The other Beverly Hills.  They have trailer hookups and camping here.  Beat that Rodeo Drive.

This is Bonneville.  This was somewhat of a religious experience for me.  This picture captures it perfectly.  The speed at which I went on the long, straight, desolate road to this particular cul-de-sac, which I will leave undisclosed, was also quite religious.  The approach road is on the right, and the track is clearly visible just beyond that.

A legendary place.  So much so, people have tried to kill it by shooting at the sign.

This is filling up in South Lake about to head around Emerald Bay and home to Incline.

Take note Randimus & Stella.  In this spot, you will be hurting on June 7, 2009, and truly wish that your bike had its own motor.

Tahoe love.  And smoke + fire.

Finally home.  Plus 5 more hours.  Long, I'm almost there but I'm not at all hours.  600 mile days on that seat back to back is not recommended.

Ok one more.

July 2, 2008 1:30PM - October 14, 2008 11:24PM.  Rode 7323 miles, 5 states, and several canyons.   RIP.

The best shot of Arlae, and how I will remeber her.  Late afternoon, August 15, 2008.  Eisenhower Tunnel, eastbound.

Now what do I name the 998?

Thanks for sharing!  Great pics!  For those of us that dont know the story of the R1's early demise, would you mind sharing what happened?  Looks bad...did you get hurt too?

Occasionally this happened.  Even has her own SV too.

That dude in the background has his priorities seriously out of whack!

Cool pics.  Wouldn't mind an R1 of that vintage myself.
