Well I just got my tax return to I feel obligated to spend it all on things I really don't need and stimulate the economy. So that being said Iwant a custom helmet since I can't find what I want.
I'm looking for a WWII type scheme with a pin up girl on it. I haven't been able to find anything so my artistic friend who paints and draws is gonna bust some drawings out and paint it on.
So this brings up a few questions.
1. Where so I start with a helmet? Should I get one with the base color and have him paint over? Or can I have him paint over my current helmet. If so what should I do to have a good base for the paint
2. What kind of paint should be used?
3. Once its all said and done I'm assuming it should be clear coated.
Mike
Sand it down, wash it, hit it with adhesion promoter, then a primer( dark for dark, light for light) then hit your base color, then paint on top. You can airbrush a girl on it, or vinyl it or just go old school paint. NOt sure what would stick though. Obviously, you want a nice clear coat to protect it afterwords. Dont forget, the masking job is the most important thing about painting a helmet. (aside from the painting obviously)
probably use automotive paint, but i am willing to bet that painting your helmet will void any warranty. If memory serves correctly some paint can mess with the laminated layers of the outer shell.
Don't get me wrong, i would still paint it. But check the literature first, and be aware that the paint and process of such could render the helmet unsafe....again i would still take the chance for something unique.
There's a stickied thread in tech where you may get correct answers to your questions.
Or just send it to that guy ^
