Walking along I saw this scooter and had to take a look. I had never seen one like this before. Anyone know what it is? Can you say close as it gets to moto gp scooter?? Pretty dang funky but fun looking.

yeah i see it on my way home after work and have always wanted to take a closer look....neat stuff. thanks for getting some closer shots of it.
I did a little research and it's a Honda Ruckus. Seems that they can be a lot of fun from the looks of it...cheap too... [laugh]

I know my Aprilia Scarabeo 50 will hit 47 with ME on it and I haven't tuned it for performance yet. I see on the Aprilia forums for scooters that they can be pumped up to a 70cc with a big bore and hit 80 no prob. These Ruckus' are cool though because they can go off road. I did look at these a couple of weeks ago in the showroom. They are close to $2800 + ttl. Way cheaper than a new bike in these tough economic times. Then again you would have to spend some geetus on the Ruckus to make it look and run like the one pictured below. Eh, I suppose it's a wash. [thumbsup]
Yeah, we saw one of these going down Hulen and over to Alta Mesa last Sunday. They've got some pep. [moto]
The dude riding it was wearing full gear and a full-faced helmet. ;D
Yup, That is a Honda Ruckus. My best friend's brother has one tweeked out like that too. It's pretty cool.
still want this to ride with full leathers!!!

You can see a bunch of Honda Ruckus at the Dub on Sundays, along with a lot of other scooters and motos

OK, all you guys who have been making fun of scooters.... [laugh] [beer]....I too was among your sarcastic group once. That is until I got my family one. Since my surgeries I have been riding around all over town on my wicked 50cc Aprilia...in leathers and a helmet! HA! [thumbsup] You may laugh now but they are like Chihuahuas, they might be small but carry an angry bite at the same time. Hail to the chihuahua. [bow_down] Werd!
not making fun of scooters just think it would be funny to see aguy in full leathers on one with those paint schemes.
I vaguely remember riding a friend's scooter when I was in college; weirdest thing ever (the scooter, not the college). It had two gears; Slow and Somewhat Slower. So to change gears, you simply turned the left hand grip forward or backwards.
Or maybe it was the right grip?
Don't know/Don't care just glad I was a bit rubbery at the time [evil]
two things you don't want your friends to see you ride, a scoot and...................... :-*
actually I wouldn't mind one for track day. ;D that three wheeler of Mark's kept laping us in the novice group. [bow_down]

I hope you can follow this link to this scooter that has been worked on in San Antonio at AF1 Racing. This is as nice as it comes with a 100mph scooter.

ok done hijacking before I get banned.
I like the Ruckus. It's like a Streetfighter Scooter.
Interesting to note that the day before the thread was started I saw a guy about three times tooling around Hollywood on a similar type scooter, but it was not a Ruckus. At first I thought it was a stripped down "bobber" scooter. What little there was to paint was coated in a matte black. Then today on my ride out to the Rock Store I saw another one, only this one was white (the matte black was much mo' betta imo).
Not sure what it was. Any scooter experts out there who might have an idea?

On a similar note, when I was driving up Mulholland Dr, I was passed by a Confederate Wraith B120!!! I couldn't believe my eyes, apart from Desmocedici this is my second fav bike :/

Giannis, have you done any mods to your scooter? That is a very nice setup you have there. If so I need some pointers on getting my Scarabeo done. Let's ride hooligan!
I thought for a moment about riding it Sunday over to ML with Stuart and Jeremy but I can't keep up with the 900ss very well on it. ???
To those who doubt... ;D..."the scooter thing" goes like this,
1) It's much smaller than a moto so it's way more managable around the city.
2) By that I mean you can go as fast as a moto in the city but have only 1/4 of the weight so it feels like nothing.
3) Gas mileage is sic! Believe me gasoline is going up again, sometime.
4) Chicks dig 'em!
5) You can seat two comfortably WITH storage if you have a top box.
6) They are very cool.
7) Here's the main reason is that they are just so much fun to ride!
With the availablity of upgrades such as Perelli or Michelin tires, K&N air filters, performance mods that are so freakin cheap you won't believe your eyes it all adds up to a very fun and affordable ride. That's it. Oh, and if you have seen any of the photos of or were at the MvR this past weekend you would get a different perspective of two wheeled transportation...IMHO that is.
I have a few problems with scooters.
#1. Gear
Most scooter riders wear no gear at all. They might not be as fast as a motorcycle, but 20 mph rash from a bicycle get off is make the beast with two backsing horrible. I would be wearing the same gear that I do on the 1098
#2. Old People
We see quite a few older couples riding scooters around my neighborhood and the local shops. I think that it is fantastic that they are on two wheels. That is until grandma can't stop and blows through a stoplight. I about plowed her with my F-250.
#3. Their gas mileage should be better. The honda CRF230L got over 100 real world miles per gallon in its test in one of the moto-mags. It is also only $4500 and a hell of a lot of fun. If I bought a scooter it would have to be all electric or maybe gas assist. 200 mpg should be the mimimum for scooters. Scarabeo 200s are getting around 75 mpg. Unacceptable.
Typical scooter attire:

i'd hit it.....but not with my car ;)
yeah...how is it that my 996cc monster can get around 45mpg, but a tiny cc scooter gets ~70mpg. what's the deal?
I totally agree with all of you. Gear is something everyone on two wheels must use. I ride with the same gear on my duc on the scooter sans the leather pants.
Old farts on two wheels is much like old farts in cars. Can't see! Specially behind those cheap cover-all goggle thingys they wear over their glasses!
Wholly agree about the milage thing too. I wish it were better than 70. I suppose it has something to do with fuel intake amount that a small cc motor has to do. I'd like to see 200 mpg too! Good points.
In all though if you abide by the gear mode the fun parts do outweigh the bad parts I think. I could be wrong. [beer]
