Post by: MrFryMoto on March 08, 2009, 09:12:13 PM
So, who has parked (or at least tried to) on Ducati Island?

i'm thinking about riding in this year for qualifying but i'm not sure if there are extra tickets i have to purchase or what?

I have.  It used to be first-come, first-served for anyone with a Duc.  In the last two or three years, you had to sign up online a coupla months beforehand and then pick up your Duc Island arm band on your way into the track.  I expect they'll do the same thing this year.  There'll be posts about it throughout the DMF, including the MOB local board and likely in Racing & Trackdays.  You *may* need to be a DOC member.

Ride up anyway.  There's a shit-ton of easily accessible moto-parking and it's not that so much more convenient than Duc Island that it should prevent you from riding.

I wouldn't bother.  I've parked there once and although it was sort of fun to be right in the middle of it I didn't really see the big deal.  If you have an amazing Ducati, then you should try to get a spot.  There's lots of parking outside of the Island, but it's a bit dusty, so don't lock your helmet to your bike like I did.  [laugh]   Duc Island is great for the gear check and the swag, so stop by for sure.

thanks for the input
do you need to buy the motorcycle parking pass ($50) or if you can get on the island, it's free?

I'm thinkin' that if you get onto the Island you don't need the pass in addition to that.

You don't need to buy a $50 moto parking pass.  That's only for super-duper special moto parking.  Regular moto parking is free.  And you don't need the $50 pass to get onto Duc Island.  You just need the Duc Island pass from Ducati.

excellent! thanks Spidey!
next question...
how soon do you have to get to the registration before it's all gone?

You have to get it pretty soon.  It's kind of a clustermake the beast with two backs because they've been changing up the Duc Island parking process each year.  Don't worry about missing online registration though.  When they open up Ducati Island parking registration, there'll be a buncha posts about it.  If I remember, I'll even PM you when I hear something.
