Ok, as promised, below are a few photographs where it is easier to see the headlight.
I know, the photos are bad. But i was in the garage after I did the work and only had my iPhone with me. i promise to post better photos when I have a chance to take them tomorrow.
I know that most people do not like the headlight of the new Monster but I liked it right away when i saw it. I still have issues with the rest of the design of the new bike (specially the entire exhaust system and routing). In any case, I run into a chance to purchase a headlight and jumped on it. i thought "If I don't like it, I put the old one back on". I did the mod today and after some minor modifying, it went right in. I really liked the way it looks and think it actually looks better on the old bike than the new one [moto]. Below are two photos that sort of show how it looks. Let me know what you think, but be gentle if you don't like it!! :-[

I have an S2R1K as well and I don't think it looks bad at all. I also agree with you that the headlight seems to go more with the S2R than the new Monster. What modifications did you have to do to get it to fit? A 3/4 front view would provide better perspective, but from what I see here, I like it. [thumbsup]
Looks good !
Anyone have pics of a V-Rod headlite mounted up to a Monster ?
Looks better than on the new Monster. I think it has to do with the height of the mounting. It sits too low on the 696 and 1100 and looks "droopy" to me...
I like that look. Just have it painted black to match the rest of the bike and it will look even better. [thumbsup]

Other than the wiring which needed to be altered in a minor way (join Blue cable with yellow with black line, the other three match perfectly), the only thing I had to do was to cut the aluminum bracket at the top. It was very easy because the aluminum was very soft and light. I will post information and a diagram about that soon.
That looks great, good job!!!
I wonder how much lighter it is compared to the glass lense headlight?

The new light is slightly lighter than the original but not by much. The original that came with my bike has a plastic lens and case though. I don't know about the older models. What I like the most is that the front is much cleaner. The black plastic trim piece at the top covers most of the wiring behind the light, something that always bothered me of the original design. It does sit higher and further forward than on the new bike. Not by much but enough to make a difference.
I was surprised how much more modern the front looks. The internals of the light and the lens itself have more spark and that makes it look newer. It really updates the front nicely. Also, because the light is designed to slope at a similar angle to the forks, it makes the lines flow better and more aerodynamically (in looks only, i don't think it has an actual effect). I did notice that the light quality is much better. There seems to be more power and coverage.
The more I look at it, the more I like it!!! ;D
Did you try putting the fairing on it?
I do not use the fairing but a guy who owns a S4Rs Tricolore did a similar conversion and he does use the fairing. He did not use the top black trim piece though. It makes me wonder wether it conflicted with the fairing. Also, because the top of the newer light is set back at an angle a bit further than the original, the fairing seemed to protrude forward further than the light. Not much, but I did noticed the difference.

Looks good. I dont like the fairing on the monsters so mine is off but with the lines of that light I think a small fairing might look good. Also the improved lighting would be nice b/c the normal headlight sucks lol.
Below is a side comparison without and with the fairing. I hope this answers your question. You can berely notice in this photo that the fairing seems to protrude forward a little.

The new headlight looks much better on the older Monster.
I like the clean lines with the headlight, exhaust and tail chop.
I have a black S2R 1000 and I would consider the same headlight mod.
Look forward to the detailed explanation.

Let me get this straight.
People are putting the old light on the new monster, and the new light on the old monster. [laugh]
I think it's alright... prefer old Monsters with old headlights or new with new. Maybe if you powdercoated the silver part of the headlight black?

Is it a threadjack to ask you about the shorty? I haven't seen one of those.
Thanks,
Kevin
hmmmm...it looks alright, I think it'd look much better with the trim/bezel painted black, just my opinion...
You should do a Tutorial on this, they're fun!
Hi Kevin,
From what i remember, the shortie fits fairly easy. The pipes coming out of it are larger than those that come out of the udder and I fabricated some sleeves to fit between them in order to bridge the gap. Yes, the pipes of the siortie go over the ones from the udder. Then I just ordered a couple of smaller clamps that fit the pipes of the shortie. I am not sure but I think I had to cut some gaps into the shortie pipes in order for them to tighten with the clamps. At least on my bike, the difference of alignment on the set of pipes is minor and i was able to fit it straight up. It does fit very close to the tire and I had to be careful when tightening the clamps so that the shortie would not rub on the tire. There is only abut 1/4"-1/2" gap between them right now. It sems like the alignment is slightly different and that is the reason for the tighter fit, but it is so minor that it never became a major issue and it's been running fine for a year now.
I hope this is useful.

+1 on the painting the grey parts of the new light black.
+1,000,000 on this light looking better on the S2R than it does on the new Monster
Looks good. [thumbsup] I've been looking at several options for a headlight mod and this one has gone to the top of the list.
I think a V-Rod headlite would look SICK on the older Monster bikes.
Anyone done/seen/have a pic of this done ?

I actually like it. It goes well with your bike and I don't think you need to paint it. The black and gray matches well. Nice job! [clap]

Hey, thanks for all that information. So, that particular slip-on is not a ducati-specific one? I went to the Termi site and didn't see anything like it for the S2R- so I'm guessing you picked up a generic one, and fabricated from there. You remember the model number?
I'm not super-excited about fabricating at this point, but that does seem to be a nice comprimise if you're in a state that is going to require emissions, and you have to keep the udder. It looks good, and opens up the back well. I don't supposed you had it dyno'd?
Thanks,
Kevin

Looks good. I think a little more low-profile like the Brutale headlight would be even better.

the shorty is for the S4RS, i think there is no increase in hp
I also like the look of the Yamaha MT-01 light. Anybody put one of those on their monster yet?
where in the states could we go about getting an MT-01 headlight? In fact, I'd prefer just get the whole bike if you please
I love it! Looks awesome. I've been wanting to do this to my custom S2R1K but can't find a newer headlight used [bang] I'm too much of a tightwad to buy a new one. Good work!
As Alexandre said, the shortie is a Termignoni part designed for Ducati's Monster s4r and s4rs (Testatretta engined only according to them) I do not have the part number. The muffler itself did not require fabrication. The only unusual part of the install was the sleeves to bridge the gap between the two pipe sizes. This you can do from a piece of pipe you get at autozone or any other generic auto part store and cutting a slit with a saw in order for them to expand and contract as you tighten the clams. It actually took ame about 30 minutes to do the entire thing and get this, I did it in the parking lot of Autozone! No biggie at all!!

Just kidding. I actually think it looks pretty good. Now that I see that headlight on an old monster I can't understand why it looks so bad on the new monster.
Wow, that looks really good! I never would have guessed it though, had I not seen it!
i think the difference of the new light design on the new monster vs the old monster is the mounting. the new bike has it flush against the forks making it seem flat and it also disappears when you are riding the bike. the old monster is sticks out more and doesn't seem crushed against the forks. but at the same time takes away the compact feel of the light. which is probably one of the design goals.
I agree, it was designed to be flatter against the forks. I just think it went to far in. I am looking to lower mine about 1 1/2" and will try to set it back about 1". Nothing like the 696 or 1100 though.

I like it! I think it looks even better on your bike than it does on a 696. And I own a 696! [thumbsup]

BLASPHEMY!!! BLASPHEMER!!!1!
The thing is, it sits much tighter to the forks on the 696, which is a good thing in my opinion.
Looks good [thumbsup]
looks great man!
glad my 696 light went to good use!
Thanks man, I saw the progress of yours too and it's looking really good. i thought you were selling it.

Wow.... I like it.... nice. Would have never thought of that. i think it fits better then the 696. Cheers.... [beer]
OK, So how much are the new lights? [moto]
I got mine used from a fellow board member who decided to install a round one in his 696. I am sure you can inquire from your dealer about the price. Post the price if you get it.
