Title: Alternative Media Player
Post by: ducpainter on May 14, 2008, 07:47:02 PM
I've been using Real Player, and recently updated....bad idea.

I couldn't play some downloaded races...WMP wouldn't work either.

Someone suggested VLC media player. It apparently comes with all necessary codecs.

Worked like a charm.

Give it a shot if your player won't work on some files.

I clicked on the thread expecting you to be looking for a new media player.

I was going to suggest VLC or songbird for just music.

btw...you might want to scan your computer for spyware, with the real player...it's full of it. I've heard you can never get rid of all of it.

media player classic rocks.

It is not a windoz software, but looks just like old-school wmp.  It is small, fast, and can play a lot of different crap without downloading a bunch of codecs.

Oh hell yes, I love Media Player Classic.  It's soooo much faster than the windows crap or the quicktime or even winamp.  I do like Winamp for music though because it has all the shoutcast stations and stuff and when I get bored of my collection I open up a station.

There's your first problem. All us 20-somethings gave this thing up long time ago. Turns out the independent software is still king.

ha, what i tell him to related to the computer:

That would be media player classic.

He still likes iTunes to organize stuff though, which is fine for his iPod, but he looks ridiculous with an iPod.

Why? How'm I 'sposed to 'poke' you unless you get on Facebook. Skip MySpace and you'll be better for it.

Right-o.

There's some other plug-ins for FireFox that have proved to be useful, but mostly for research and most effective for collegians and paper writing.

The more doodads you get, the worse off you'll be.

I jumped off Real Player and the Real format way back in the day when they started putting ads in the program, beyond the content itself.

I started using real when motogp.com had issues with the stream on their servers with wmp.

I don't subscribe any more so bye bye real

If you use a man you need perian.org, it allows you to play pretty much anything in QP.  Also, flip4mac plays WMVs in QP (cause the only thing worse than WMP is WMP on mac).
