Title: Shoei RF-1000 Cheek Pads
Post by: He Man on May 14, 2008, 09:05:07 PM
I have a large helmet, but i only have a medium noggin (first helmet, stupid purchase), Im thinking if i get bigger cheek pads the helmet would fit more snug, so i got on ebay and found this.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Shoei-Cheek-Pads-RF1000-TZR-41mm-01476_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ6749QQihZ013QQitemZ230129454125QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

If i get the small cheek pads, will they fit in the large? I know Shoei has differnt shell sizes but im not sure how different the snaps are inside.
Does anyone have a crashed RF1000 with medium or even small cheek pads they wanna donate?

I question whether or not cheek pads will make a significant difference.  Not to sound like your mother or anything, but it's not very safe to wear the wrong size helmet and try to tweak it to make it fit.  If anything, it's the most important piece of safety equipment you will be wearing.  If a medium fits you better, I would sell the large and buy a medium.

A snug helmet is a safe helmet.   [thumbsup]

I actually picked up a medium to replace this one. So this one just sitting around. I went down on it, but i could hardly consider it a crash since i went down in a pile of rocks and sand at 40mph. Most of the hit was taken by my legs. :(. I woulnt feel right selling it since i have droped it once when i left it on the hood of my dads car, and that supposely makes the helmet structual unsafe. If i  can get it to fit, it'll only be used to for in town riding.

My main question becomes, whats the difference between a medium shoei? and a large shoei? If its the same shell size, then all i need are medium pads right? But id be willing to go down to a small just because everything in the hlemet is so broken in already.

I'm pretty sure the cheek pads fit all sizes.  Just to let you know....I went down to my local Jap bike dealer and ordered new Shoei pads for 19.00.  They had them in 3 days.

New Enough also

The pads fit every size shell, the difference is on how thick they are.

The RF-1000 is same as the X-11:

"Shoei has resolved this problem by designing four separate shell sizes for the X-Eleven.  The smallest shell is used for the XXS, XS and S sizes; the medium shell is used for head size medium; the size large shell for head size large, and an extra-large shell size for XL and XXL"

interesting... I have an RF1000 in med but always thougt the cheek pads were a little snug, tried it w/out but it was too loose.
So could I could get "Large" cheek pads and have a little more room?

He Man - if you already have a Med, why not just pop them out and into the large to see if that works before ordering?

Different helmet. Med Scorpion, Large Shoei. Wanna trade cheek pads? Only been worn for a year an 4,000 miles! My Scorpion is already broken in less than 100 on and offs.

I would, but from the new enough link it looks like Lg amd Med have the same 35mm cheek pads, so I am gonna go ahead and order some 31mm

seems like you'd want to get the 39 or even the 41
