Okay so after the discussion on "too Oggy knob" or "too not Oggy knob"
I have been wanting to go and do the Stay Upright Advanced course.
There are two dates coming up in June that I am looking at right now.
Monday June 2
Friday June 6
If anyone wants to come learn I'll know by next week which day I am going to book.
cheers
Matty...
I was going to suggest something similar, I have done the advanced course before, always sain I would do it again on any new bike I get. I would also seriously consider the cornering and braking [moto].
Only problem is, my bike is not run in yet and the 30min free time at the end of the day is the highlight... would be soooo tempting to just give her a wrist full 8)
Does that mean you won't be fully run in for the 31st ride then?
In anycase I will pick a date next week.
First service will be done so worst of it will be over, in any case it will be a good excuse if you guys burn me ;D
i wouldn't worry about the running in thing. nikasil bores don't need it, besides, have you seen what they do to them on the dyno at the factory!!! oh my lord! [roll]
i did the braking and cornering course years ago and back then they wouldn't let me do the advanced day till i'd done that first. well worth the time spent. [thumbsup]
paul.

The bores don't, but the rings and gear teeth might be better off if it's run in a little gently, it's hard to say. I'm the sort of person who aims for _long_ ownership, so I'm prepared to live with babying it for a few days at the start even if there's no conclusive proof either way whether it helps in the long run or not. Mind you, that still meant I was due for my 1000km service 3 days after I rode mine off the showroom floor, and was "fully run in" by the end of the first week...

that's like me with my previous duke which was my first ever, mind you. rode it out of the shop, and spent the whole arvo/night/day just riding-refueling-riding............
had to park it than and wait a week for a spare date to do the service

I picked mine up on a Thursday afternoon, and asked to book it in for it's 1000km service while I was there. The service guy flips open his calendar to a page about 2 months away and says "when do you want to bring it in", I say "how about Monday?"... Ended up not being able to have them do it until the Tuesday, so I had to ride my Spada to work on the Monday 'cause I'd already done ~1200km by Sunday afternoon...
But I _know_ people think I'm weird... (I suspect I'll end up being a Moto Guzzi owner one day...)

Hmmmmm. As I thought, a bit rich for me at the moment, bloody getting married blah blah blah. [cheeky]
I've wanted to do this for a while, will just have to keep on using my natural talent. [puke]
For which you are blessed with much....
Did one of those courses years back it really dose help.
All I can say is try not to focus on the speed focus on your posture and lines just be loose the speed will come in time.
A lot of guys are going off and doing super bike schools with no intentions to do track days. Wrong
The only thing they will teach you there are track lines totally different to street lines and also dangerous on the road.
The stay upright class is great you will learn some things that will shock you regarding braking distances mid corner braking and how it can help and line of vision.
Plus you will have a stack of fun [thumbsup]
Hey Matty could you PM me the details for the 6th June. I actually have the day off and "might" get a leave pass from the boss..... [thumbsup]
Could be interested for the Friday although logistics could be an issue (assuming I can get the time off work).
Would you be intending to do the theory session? Is there anything covered there that won't be covered again on the day? I'm asking because it would make it a very late night for me before a very full day on the Friday.
I most likely would do the theory session however it is only an option it is not necessary to do it.
I am sure they would give some sort of catch up briefing on the morning when people arrive.
So which is the one you guys are doing The Advanced I Skills Development Course or
Advanced II Cornering & Braking Course???
Advanced skills I
I think you have to do that before they let you do # II
Yep When you guys finish Skill 1 Il join you for Skills 2 need a bit of a nip and tuck ;D
The theory is pretty good though if you got your bike licence within the last couple of years its much the same stuff they go over in that course. If you have had your licence for a long time it would be of benefit as it alerts you to the old mis-conceptions developed by "experienced" riders. Would recommend it.
The Advanced I course is very infomative and i would suggest you will learn how to get more from your ride. IMO. Most of all its heaps of fun [moto].
I will sit this one out, I look to have finally convinced my best mate to get a road bike and have committed to doing the same course with him ( if he ever decides on a bike).
Steve.
I've been wanting to do this for ages, so I'm booked for Fri 6th.
Book also will see you there Craigeaux

Great news Betty & Jukie..... Hey you guys interested in doing the Thursday night???? If so and you you need a place to stay down Sydney way (so you don't have to ride home) with a double locked garage to house the babies let me know......... Otherwise will meet up on the day for the ride down.... [thumbsup]
Big T, thank you for the generous offer. We are hoping to attend the Thursday night and are currently weighing up our options.
Ok, after yesterdays ride I am in need of some instruction on riding my baby. I have booked in for friday 6th june, I will have to wait for a reply to see if the course is booked out.
Don
Awesome day! Good to finally put names to faces. The noise from the tail end of the pack when 10+ Monsters were moving up hill was phenomenal! Looking forward to watching the video.
Just did the Advanced 1 course yesterday, not a big turnout (12) as the weather here's been pretty crap. But the god's smiled on us yesterday and we got good weather.
Learned heaps, gained a lot of my old confidence back, highly recommended.
There was a fair cross section of experience there and the instructors took it all in to account.
Great to have someone follow you around and critique you at the end.
Excellent.
The 6 of us who are going this Friday I know are looking forward to it.
OK, I have just received confirmation I'm in for Friday, I didn't know about the three hour tutorial 6.30 Thursday. Is that an option or mandatory?

I guess il have to set the zoom to max ;D
After watching the national park and mac pass vids a couple of times, I don't think you need to worry about me for the time being Dockstrada.
BTW I think everyone scheduled for attendance on Friday should do a little anti rain dance (just in case).

The advanced 1 course ain't about riding fast, it's about riding safe.
After riding with Dock on saturday I think its tounge in cheek! You dont get a d16rr unless you can ride.
When you ride safe you ride faster naturally [moto] new lines for the road lots of room for error, more confidence ride faster and on and on [thumbsup]
I would like to say that I am very jealous of you all - I have to f#$king work and I could really do with the training....

Looks like you guys and Gal had a great day [thumbsup]
what was the best thing you learnt matty im thinking of doing the course in december bazz [thumbsup]
Great day and the highlights for me were:
1. Seeing Jukie aka Julie scrap her boot on a corner. She didn't know her baby would lean over that far.... ;D
2. Matty's Magic tires were giving a 1098S a hurry along on the corners...... Matty was blowing this guy on the corners ..... [moto]
Had a blast and highly recommend the course for one and all.......
Best thing I learn: Ride Posture.... How to position myself correctly and maintain it in the bends and on the straights......
Ooohh and emergency stops..... F....k those Braking Rotors and Race/Street pads stop.......... First ever mini stoppie.....

How did the instructor react with all those monsters on the track at the same time? :o
Twas a good day and thankfully the rain held off.
There is a lot of things I need to work on (and a couple of mods may be needed). But the big one the instructors kept drumming into me was that I don't use the brakes enough.
Nice photos as usual Matty ... and that monstrous 620 of yours was all over that 1098.
As for Jukie .... well for someone who started the day saying she doesn't like corners, it could be a while before that smile subsides.

A couple of comments were made about the tingling of the aural senses. One of the things they actively encourage is blipping the throttle during down changes .... and I was told that I was not revving it enough on the downshifts.

Thanks you guys for letting me ride with you, and for picking up on my new bike habit [moto]
It was a fantasic and awesome time with no rain :) , and yes i did my nudie run straight in a nice hot bath ;D
cheers again [wine]
What did I learn?
1. to keep pressure on the front brake while blipping on down shifts.
2. just how amazing the front brakes are and how they can stop you REAL quick without locking.
3. looking further through corners.
4. most important for me moving my weight off the bike, so I lean but the bike stay more upright in cornering.
5. low speed maneuvering, didn't think my Monster could steer that well going slow so.
Highly recommended for anyone who has been riding for any length of time.
$385 very well spent.
Go do it.....
Looks like everyone had a great time and learnt something that will make them better and safer riders on the road. All good.
I am going to see if and when there might be a similar type of training in South Australia. Would be great to get a couple of local Monster riders together like the Sydney crew to make a day of it.
I am envious with the amount of resources and fellow Ducati Monster owners that get together in Sydney and enjoy a common passion.
It is good to be able to "sort of" join in over the internet.
Thanks Mattyvas for his photos and videos that he gets done so quickly and shares... Gee you got to love the internet.
Cheers
Bret
Bret, you should have a few down your way for the Tourismo I believe.
As for the instructor with the Monster:
- on sign-in he asked why so many monsters
- my reply was 'the real question is why aren't you on ducatimonsterworldwide.org' - and it was apparent from the completely stock bike he had
Another guy asked why so many monsters and I told him about the forum. He said I don't s'pose there is a Hyosung forum - but he was going to have a look anyway. So even outsiders see the value in this community.
Another of the instructors said (from a distance) 'geez that gsxr looks good' then spent the next five minutes ogling the monsters in silent amazement. Gotta love our bikes!

Do you remember the name of the instructor?
Because if it's the same bloke who does the L and P's at Clyde, he was all over mine when I did my licence, another one of the instructors even pointed to my bike and said don't be surprised if my bike is missing by the end of the day. [laugh]

Yeah he was very helpful - he was the one who told me I was not revving enough on the downshifts. In fact he got me to practice it a few times and then he demonstarted further (on my bike) another or 6 or 7 times to make sure I could tell the difference

Hey Craigo,
that's great, I can't remember if the Boss man said he'd have a CD of everything he shot of each person for $30 or what.
Might email them to find out what the story is. I know Big T is going to get the other CD of that gallery and share the hi res images.
But it's good to have these smaller ones just for the memories.
And you're right it seemed like we were much closer the track than the photos show.
