Title: Ever had the commute from hell?
Post by: Cher on March 19, 2009, 03:46:22 PM

Alan ran across this commuting story over on Two Wheeled Texans today...

sad to admit but I dumped a bunch of ball bearings in front of a car who was, tragically, doing the same thing to us a few years back (I rode with a NOT-so civilized crew then  :-X).  I hate those drivers.

 [clap]  one fan........ [thumbsup]
thank God I didn't have a gun with me at the time.
I have seen this used more than once on a car when the driver became aggressive and pushing people off the road and boy was it funny to see his face.  I know, I'm evil inside but he deserved it

THAT'S CRAZY!!! I personally would have pulled over once she tried to physically throw things at me and called the police, but then on the other hand, you don't really get any personal satisfaction by doing that. It's hard to keep your composure when some lunatic is trying to kill you. We as humans have an instinctual habit to retaliate when someone is trying to harm us. So.....payback is a b@#ch!!!  ;D

I would either buy a new bike, change the colour of the one used during the incident, or take a totally different route for future commutes. Imagine riding down the road on a nice day a few months from now and suddenly that crazy lady shows up remembering what happened. You think she'll say "Hello"? She's gonna want her mirror back and it might hurt a lot more when she does try to get it.

Yeah the thing that gets me is sometimes people in cars play the same lane intimidation games with people riding motorbikes.  Like we've got inches  of steel between us and their bumper  [bang]

Whether they understand they're about to break someones leg - or worse - with aggressive, stupid maneuvers in traffic, is another debate all together.  I'm with Muskrat on this one - don't be surprised if Defenseless Biker pushes back every now and then.

"You want some more of that?"  [evil]

Well I for one am going to keep a lookout for a Camry with missing mirrors as I am sure she now has a vendetta against all us two wheelers, next guy may not be so lucky.  Careful out there you all.

Helmet mounted camera.  So much you could do with footage of situations like that.

Used to have serious problems in and around Austin in the 70s when on bicycle training rides. We'd get out on 620 around the lake when is was just a simple two lane road and red neck cowboys just didn't like the look of guys in cycling outfits. I can't tell you how many empty long neck beer bottles and cans were hurled at us by trucks running 60-70mph from behind and coming at us. Twice I was on rides where guy's bikes got hit by bottles and we got sprayed by flying glass. It was to the point on some rides I seriously thought about taking a gun! There were no cell phones in the 70s and there was never law enforcement around.

Even had one of my friends knocked off his bike going east on MLK on purpose by a car and the driver got out and hit and kicked my friend on the ground! Guess he didn't like a group of bicycle riders blocking his lane? Even though it's a multi lane road. He was with other riders who finally drove the nutcase off and got his license plate and called it in at a 7-11. The cops did nothing. Said how could they be sure the attacker was the owner of the car? Well, duh... there were witnesses!! Glad I wasn't on that ride and damn glad I wasn't carrying a gun. :P

Bicycle or motorcycle, you just can't escape the massive numbers of jerks, idiots and lunatics behind the wheels of cars. >:(

Wow, I guess I can consider myself lucky I've only had people buzz me and haven't had anything thrown at me. I cycled into work this morning and had a semi blare his horn in my ear. THAT woke me up! This was on a 3 lane road mind you, with hardly any traffic. I guess I was taking up too much space.  [roll]
Title: Full-contact commute...

Cheeses!!!  I've often thought about helmet cams or just several bike-mounted cams.  Or riding with an (unloaded) AK47 strapped visibly over my back.  Or maybe a real RPG.   [moto]

Boy, waddya do?

In Arizona it's illegal to carry a concealed weapon.  That's CONCEALED weapon.  But it's nothing to see some hooligan zipping down the hwy with a Glock tucked in to the small of the back.  Bet the pregnant dog would get away with that craziness very long in Phoenix.

Back in 2001 I had the same type of experience on the 101 heading up to Ventura.  Scared the hell out of me, and I was in my TRUCK!

Some people simply need to be in an institution; or the ground.

I believe New Mexico has open carry also. Got stopped by a NM Trooper once and he saw the IPSC sticker on my truck and we got to bs'ing about tactical shooting. I told him I had a CHL and the gun was under the back seat unloaded due to NM not having a CHL law at the time. He said hell, stick it in your waist band, it's legal. I passed on the opportunity. But you are right, I'm surprised that more people don't get shot for driving like murderous a##holes by other hot heads. Dangerous world out there.

I have been gently corrected via PM:

"Arizona is a shall issue state for concealed carry permits.  I carry concealed there several times a year."

Which is a GOOD thing.  Still, it did take awhile for me to adjust to seeing guns on hips.  Lots to like about Arizona I say!

LOL!

Truth be told, I prefer 120 degrees in Phoenix than 100 degrees in Dallas.

Talk about hot heads! Did you read the news about the guy who shot another guy because of an argument regarding a parking space to go and play soccer at a park off of LBJ and Park Central yesterday?  Just gotta be careful who to piss off now a days. CRAZY!!!!

I do a lot of stupid shit on bikes... (not bragging) but I have never experienced any kind of rage or what not from other drivers
