Title: Ducati tricolore jacket
Post by: MostroS2R on March 23, 2009, 05:38:19 AM
Anybody have one, how is it? I'm thinking of buying it but was wondering how it did in cooler temps.

Do you mean the all leather or the half leather, half fabric?

It's half leather half fabric.

I've got that jacket. As far as quality and warmth (I too bought it as a cold weather jacket), it's very good. The fabric keeps it a little lighter than a full leather winter jacket, which is nice. The only problem is that it fits big. I wear a US 44 in most Dainese jackets. The Tricolore I have, which is of course not made by Dainese, is a L and fits me too big. The size chart I looked at when ordering it was way off. So I wore the jacket about half a dozen times and it now just sits in my closet (bought it in 10/08). If you want it, pm me.

I'm not a big guy and found the large too tight. I tried the XL and found that it fit perfectly.

I'm not that big and i found the XL fits perfectly. I bought it last summer and used it without the liner and it was great, but when winter came i put the liner in and used it over the christmas holiday while i put 420miles on an 1100s monster for my local ducati store which is now their demo bike. It got quite cold and i can report that i felt warm and cosy. Hope this helps  [thumbsup]

I'm about 5'9" and 150 lbs. if that helps - L was too loose on me even with the liner in and a (thin) sweater. I like my gear pretty snug though.

I bought that jacket. It was crap.
2 of the seams broke around the shoulders. Mine could have been a fluke, but I was amazed at how badly it was put together. It would not have survived a bad crash IMO. I went full leather after that.

If you're stuck on this one, I would go to a shop and look at the seams of the shell etc. inside and make sure you know what you're getting.

I bought one. I like it. Fits good. I ride at temps in the low 40's and with the liner, I'm ok for at least 1 hour. My one complaint is that the area in front of the neck gets alittle tight when snapped. Feels like it wants to choke me. My previous jacket was 100% nylon or something like that. When I had my accident, it got cut up pretty bad (50+ stitches in my arm pit) I vowed to never wear anything but leather. Even though it is not 100% leather, I do feel safer. I thought I wanted brand specific, Now I'm not so sure. I think my next will be a full leather A*'s. P.S. Wish I had a Tricolor to match.

Are they worth the extra $$ over a joe rocket leather jacket???

That's my everyday jacket and I've been happy with it.  I cut the logo off of the back and haven't had a problem with it.  But since I wear it a lot, it's starting to fray a bit around the main zipper.

Actually, I can sell you one, slightly used.  ;D

Please tell me you kidding.

Almost anything is better than a Joe Rocket. I had a friend who tipped his bike over in his driveway and landed on his elbow. He was wearing a Joe Rocket and the seam completely failed where it hit the pavement at exactly 0 MPH.

At the time I was still wearing Joe Rocket and Icon and after that I made the switch. This thing about riding gear is that usually the more it costs, the better it is.

A Dainese, Vanson, Furygan, or any of the other more expensive jackets is going to protect you far better than anything Joe Rocket makes.

Of course protection is very important... but you forgot to mention that higher end gear will typically fit and feel better... The leather will be of higher quality and more supple.

calling Bikergodess!

Come in!

She works at Dainese. They make some excellent stuff. Check out their back protectors etc. I don't leave home without it.
The Del Mar jacket has this crazy cool high tech lining that lets wind pass under the leather as if it was perforated, but it's NOT  perforated. I LOVE this jacket. Excellent armor.
You can get a solid custom jacket made that a lot of racers use for less $, but it will be hot as sh*t in the Summer compared to this one.

Don't get the perforated one, you'll freeze unless you live in AZ.

I, OTOH, crashed twice in a Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket a few yrs ago, and it held up very well for a textile jacket, including a 50 mph low side. I threw it away after the 2nd crash, though. In that low side, I was also wearing joe rocket gpx armored gloves, which held up very well.

Anyway, now that I have the means, I don't skimp on gear either. Most of my stuff is Dainese or A-stars, with the exception of the tricolore jacket (which I don't wear because it's too big).

I'd like to find that on sale in the fall.  Isn't it like $500 or so?

Just slightly more expensive than that. But can you really put a price on your safety? The D Store has a sale for the entire month of August and another from mid-January to the end of February. We have clearance racks of men's jackets year-round.

FYI: All Ducati-branded protective gear (jackets and pants) are made by Dainese. The designers may not always get it right, but 9 times out of 10, you'd be better off in a crash wearing good quality leathers.
