Title: Pack for Commuting with Laptop - Kriega and others?
Post by: junior varsity on March 25, 2009, 09:27:21 AM
I'm looking to ride more often, and I have to carry a laptop and often one to two casebooks. These are medium-large books. I'd like the bag to be robust enough to keep me worry free with my work inside, and with substantial enough material that it will hold up for a few years of daily use - not just toting it with me, but unloading/loading/using zippers a lot.

My laptop, unfortunately for the circumstances, is a 17" laptop - a Dell M90. She's not small.

What size Kriega is most appropriate for this type of commute?

Are there other options others have used and enjoyed? I really liked the axio packs but unfortunately I've got too much stuff / stuff too large to fit in their nice hardshell, red packs.

Please let me know experiences.

my laptop is 13.3 inches and doesn't come close to filling the laptop/a4 slot. Even if the laptop doesn't fit in the pouch (which isn't padded), you could drop the laptop in the main bag in a neoprene sleeve.

Do you see there being enough room for a laptop like a 17? Mine is fairly thick as well, its bigger than the 17 Macbook. Which size bag do you have?

I have the R 25 pack. I'd assume the machine would fit, but I don't have one I could drop in to check. It would be hard to imagine the laptop not fitting into the R 35. You could probably put a desktop in that bag!

I was traveling to TX and just got back.  I couldn't get my iPhone to login to forum to do a reply.  Sorry for delay.    The R25 should be great.  The R35 is large and really for extended riding and touring.   Still a great rucksack.   The R25 will fit the laptop, even with an extra padded sleeve and your large law books.  You will also like the compression straps that keep the books in place, so you can still carve a twistie on the way to class.

If you buy it and it isn't the right fit, we will refund you or move you up to an R35 and handle the shipping.    Our commitment to your continued education.  ;-)

You can order on www.matrixmotosports.com (//http://)  or www.kriega.us (//http://) (//http://) (both our sites)

Cheers,
Scott

I've always been a fan of Chrome Bags based out of SF:  http://www.chromebagsstore.com/index.html (http://www.chromebagsstore.com/index.html)

I have the Metropolis Messenger Bag, which could certainly hold your laptop and books, but might not be the most comfortable since it's a single strap.  They have a wide range though and is worth checking out if you're looking for other options.

I have the Chrome citizen bag for commuting.  I used to have a packpack for my laptop and etc.  After awhile, the pack straps cut the circulation to my arms and my shoulders got really sore.  I like the single strap of the Chrome bag since the pressure point is now my chest, not my shoulders.  Also makes bending over with my arms much easier.

I put my laptop in sideways, with the narrow side at the bottom of the bag.  Seems to work really well for me.   [thumbsup]

I debated getting the Kreiga or the Chrome, but went with the former because of the comments on this site AND because it was engineered for motorcycles. The Chrome bags are nice though (and more fashionable). I've never had a bag I've liked as much as the Kreiga though.

I just ordered an R25 and the optional Kube Pocket from MatrixMoto. Can't wait to get it.   [popcorn]

FYI: It was easier for me for some reason to order from www.matrixmotosports.com (//http://) than at www.kriega.us (//http://)
The coupon for free shipping would accept but required you to input the type of shipping you wanted which raised the total price (Kriega.us). Matrixmotosports.com was hassle free with no coupons required once it recognized that you spent the required amount.

I ordered the exact same setup a couple of weeks ago. Excellent choice. Ordered from Matrix on a Thursday and it was at work Monday morning. Great pack, great company; both matrixmotorsports and Kriega.

Two days later... USPS just dropped the R25 off at the front door. Good stuff!!!! I think I'm going to start toting my netbook laptop around along with some other stuff. I've had it for less than 20 minutes and it has exceeded my expectations already.

Finally decided on ordering the R25. I'm excited - I just got news that my dad wants to meet up with me (here in Dallas) and ride to Las Vegas. Perfect opportunity to try out the bag. Oh, and school between now and then I suppose...
Title: I added the Kriega R25 - love it

My small T42 is tight for the pouch but fits with lunch bag and thermos fine in main.

Adding size 11 clogs required a light lunch.
Padded pouch for l/t is a good idea.

Bag lacks organizer pockets (one inner pouch) but I'll live. Could probably do something different
with the zippered pocket on the back.

As advertised, this bag carries nice! Large loads or small, without luggage it is THE way to go.

I also have the R10 which hasn't been attached yet  but it could sub as a grocery bag.

Anyone have any word on how well the bag works with a speed hump?  I've got a dianese Del Mar jacket with the hump (love the jacket, hate the hump), and it's kinda annoying throwing on my non-moto-designed backpack.

hmmm. not sure. my dainese jacket has no hump, but is leather (not textile) and the bag works great with it.

its how i'm draggin' my clothes and money on my ride to Las Vegas in 3 weeks
