Title: Tailoring Leather Pants
Post by: nkryptit on March 30, 2009, 11:01:51 AM
Hello All,

I just ordered a pair of Alpinestars Twin Leather Pants from Revzilla on closeout (only $143 out the door).  These pants are usually $230, so it seems like a steal to me.  Even though I usually wear a 32 or 34 jean, I usually go for a 30" inseam because most of my height is in my upper-body, not my short little legs.  The Alpinestars size chart http://www.revzilla.com/alpinestars-size-chart#23 (http://www.revzilla.com/alpinestars-size-chart#23) says that a size 34 comes with a 34" inseam also.  I'm wondering how hard it is to find someone to Hem a pair of leather pants and how much I should expect to pay.  I know pricing on things like this can vary quite a bit, just don't want to get the run-around.

Hemming should be easy enough it is not like you are having them adjust a seam in the leg or torso.

I don't know about leather, but my wife has to have everything hemmed as they don't make clothes for those short little legs of hers. They charge anywhere from $20-$40 depending on how they perform the hem. You are probably going to be out somewhere in the $30-$50 range I would imagine to have it "done right". You are going to have to have new zippers put in the legs? Is there elastic or any other material to have installed? By the end of it all, you may end up close to retail...

Good luck and let us know how the gear mods turn out.

I think those pants can be 'hemmed' by just cutting off the legs to the desired length.  No real need to hem them.

edit: Sorry, I just looked closer at those pants, and I don't think they can just be cut.

Thanks for the reply's.  I didn't really think about the zippers, but yeah, It makes sense that I'd have to get shorter zippers put in.  I'll let you guys know how it turns out.  Thanks!

I actually just got them a couple days ago, tried them on with my boots, and they fit just fine.  The only problem, and I've heard this from others, is that they used a snap at the waist that comes undone basically every time I stand or sit, even take a big breath.  I'm glad I ordered the size I did, even though I thought they were going to be quite big.  Thanks anyway!
