Title: Hi There:)
Post by: mrs minnesotamonster on March 30, 2009, 04:46:53 PM
Hi there:)

My name is Amber and I will soon be living in a suburb of the twin cities in MN.

I don't currently ride or have a bike, but am waiting for my fiance to a) teach me how to ride and b) buy a new bike and I can get his hand me down (an '01 Monster 600).

I grew up in a Harley family and have been happily converted to a Duc girl:)

Welcome Amber!  :)

First of all, we have a Women's forum (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=25.0), please feel free to stop in and say hi.

While you are waiting on your fiance, have you also thought about signing up for an MSF class?  It's a great way to get started riding, plus it will help in getting your license, and may help with discounts on insurance and gear.

Anyway, best of luck and keep us updated. [thumbsup]

Thanks for the advice, I'll have to look into that, since he seems to be taking forever...or at least longer than I have the patience to wait.  ;)

And he also doesn't approve of my choice of bike if I were to buy a new one... :(

Welcome Mrs. M. !  Looks like Mr. M directed you to this little forum.   [thumbsup]

Also be sure to check out our MN message board here:  http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=29.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=29.0)

Someone recommended the MSF course so you can learn how to ride - that's an excellent idea for you.
Here's a link to the sites in MN that offer the course:  http://www.motorcyclesafety.state.mn.us/latest/MMSChome.asp?cid=1 (http://www.motorcyclesafety.state.mn.us/latest/MMSChome.asp?cid=1)    Follow the "Quick Links" in the middle of the page to find the class that's closest to you.  I'd definitely recommend signing up soon - classes fill up fast!

Thanks for the MSF suggestions guys and gals. I'll get her enrolled in one once the weather starts to cooperate a bit  >:( Looks like there are classes at Century College which is about 3 miles from where we will be  :) Perfect.

An MSF class definitely sounds like the way to go then. Thanks a lot:) I'll be taking one this summer for sure.

Mr. M definitely did direct me here...I had to see what he spends all day, every day doing...and talking about;)

I live about 1/2 mile from the Century College "driving range" and I've taken the ERC course there.  Greg Pierce is the chief - he's a great instructor and generally a good guy.   [thumbsup]

Sign up for a class ASAP - as the MN weather warms up the classes fill quickly.

Century College is 3 miles from you - so you're moving to WBL?  Oakdale?  N. St Paul?

Just east of you guys - in Mahtomedi.  Welcome to the neighborhood!

We'll have to get together for a ride this spring.  ;D

You're kidding, right?  This is Minnesota.   [laugh]

Actually there are a couple of fun roads nearby, but the really interesting stuff is across the border in WI.

I'll be happy to join you guys for some local bike events, too!  Italian Night and First Thursday (both in MPLS) can be quite entertaining.   ;D

Absolutely.

Hey - I just want to reiterate about the MSF classes:  Century College is a popular place to do the MSF, and their classrooms will fill fast.  They've probably booked most of the May classes by now, so the next-earliest opportunity could be June or July.  Call Century College and enroll in a class ASAP - otherwise Mrs M. will be waiting 'til August...

Thanks for the headsup.  I just looked and most of the May classes are pretty open still. Going to call and book on Monday.

Welcome to Minnesota! As Bluemoco said, we have a MN section on here called MADDOG...check it out. And we have a monthly Italian Bike Night where we meet up. The next one is this Monday at Grumpy's downtown. They have a website so look it up for directions. You guys should come down there and meet a few of us.  [beer]
