Title: Experience with Kevlar fabric?
Post by: Mash on April 05, 2009, 08:11:16 PM
I picked up some Kevlar fabric off eBay. The plan is to have a tailor line the rear-end of my CityPants.  Since there's already a mesh lining, it's gonna be some work to get that fabric in there.  Has anyone done this before?  I'm hoping that I'll like the results, i.e. won't be too hot, or itchy or make my butt look big.

the answer is highly dependent on the weave of the kevlar. i have several pairs of kevlar pants (different application) which are more comfortable than jeans. however, if it is a loose weave, it may not have been manufactured with the idea of being next to your skin.......could get itchy. you might try to have it inserted underneath the mesh.

also, if it is a loose weave, its not going to provide a whole lot of protection.

Not sure if it's the 'loose' weave or not.  here's a link to an eBay sale for the same product I bought

My bike is going to be down for a week or so getting the front wheel replaced, and a few bits powdercoated, so I'm gonna get my pants done at the same time.  I'm definately going to try and get the fabric under the mesh lining. I have another pair of pants with some kevlar inside, and while it feels smooth to the touch, is pretty abrasive against skin.
