Title: Securing a bag to my M1100
Post by: alligator on April 15, 2009, 12:37:37 PM
I've been using a backpack to take my lunch, clothes, and shoes to work every day.  I hate wearing it on my bike because it restricts some of my movement.  I'd like to secure it somehow to the back of my seat.

What do people use to secure things when riding?  I obviously do not want to scratch anything up, the bike is brand new!

i put a small backpack on the back of my bike using a bungy spider. i keep a good coat of wax on the cover, slips like hell til i put the spider on but keeps the light scratches from happening.and i make sure only soft parts of the backpack touch the bike.

Not exactly answering your question, but one other alternative is to get the DP tailbag. It converts to a backpack with the provided straps. The tailbag zips onto a cover that uses the existing allen bolts that hold your tail cowl. I've gone up to 90+mph with it on and it doesn't budge.

Take the cover off, get a cargo net ($10) and strap it on.  Will hold great. That's all I use, I hate tank bags.

I use a combo of backpack and tailbag.

By Givi, comingsoon.... I think! I guess you can just go with the rear side bags and rack.

Wow! That Givi setup is tall!! Interesting how they were able to incorporate the side saddles. Post pics when you get it on. Since I already have a tailbag, the side saddles tickles me more.

back your bike to a pool and use that rear trunk as a high dive...  uuuuuhhhhhhhhh that thing is awesome. [cheeky]

ive got the same tail bag as sfarchie, throwing a leg over it gets pretty old quick im 6'2" and its a work out, however it does exactly what i need it to do. worth the 240$ or so it cost? would i buy it again? probably not.

im trying to figure out where i can mount a hitch on my 1100 and get a trailer.

i'm just hoping it's not too expensive. this is EXACTLY what i've been looking for. I plan on a summer tour with the wife. this setup will make her very comfortable. my only concern is the side bags seem kinda close to the rear pegs.

Which tailbag are you using?

I got the DP tailbag specifically made for the 696/1100. As causeofkaos said, it cost around $240. Heard many places were backordered on these bags and won't expect shipment till mid May, but that may have changed since I got mine 3 weeks ago.
