Title: Hitch mounted carrier?
Post by: puchika on April 27, 2009, 09:04:50 AM

My jeep has a class III hitch and its tongue weight is 500 lbs.  Is a hitch mounted carrier practical to carry my Monster 696?

TIA

Recent discussion about these carriers. Might have some useful info for you to look at.

Personally, the tongue weight of 500 would concern me as low, with the weight of a bike AND the carrier itself... just imagining the force applied when you go over a bump.

sport bike magazine (or maybe the other one) had a hitch hauler that claimed to bbe much more sturdy than the others. I will see if i can find it.

Next time you upgrade your 4x4 try a LR disco2; rated to tow like 9k lbs, not sure about tongue weight but im positive it will outhaul a jeep (no offense, LR fanboy here)
