I have an Alpinestars one o one jacket that I like a lot, however since I bought it I feel as though I've grown a bit and I feel like the jacket no longer fits properly. When I bought it it was tight. It fits like a glove in some areas but when I bend my arms up to adjust my visor or backpack I notice it gives me bruising and abrasions on my skin around the crease of my forearms. I really have to fight with it. Bad right? I have a medium, I almost bought a large but the armor really didn't fit well at all in the large. This was the story for pretty much every jacket I've tried. I noticed it was tight when I bought it but my understanding was that unless the armor cups you and stays in place it's not going to do it's job in the event of an impact... Although I'm really not encouraged to wear an uncomfortable jacket that limits my mobility.
I guess my question is, if one happens to be between sizes, is it best to buy small and deal with it or buy larger and have some room?
I feel your pain. Leather jackets are supposed to be snug but comfortable. I think I'm done with off the shelf jackets. They are either too tight in one area and loose in other areas.. My next one is going to be a custom fit jacket. They aren't that much more than store bought ones.
Just a random search but Pilot USA sells them for $600.
im in the opposite position,in between M and L my jacket is a L and it fits perfectly on the arms but too big in the middle
It is more comfortable than a tighter one probably but may not protect as well. It also fills with air and billows when i have the vents open (which is always)
id get custom if i could afford it, maybe next time
Yeah, I had the same problem with a textile I had, it fit well in the arms and too much rom in the middle and would just catch the wind like a sail. Ugh. [bang]
This is a rather perplexing problem.
I'm wearing the same size Jackets that I did when I weighed 235 lbs. but now I weigh 250 lbs. They fit me very snug . I wear a separate Back Protector under the Jackets so I have limited mobility as far as lifting my Arms.
I feel as long as I can be comfortable on the bike that's what really counts.
I wear either Dainese or Ducati leather short Jackets and always long gauntlet Racing Gloves so that the length of the sleeves is not so critical since the Gloves cover the sleeve ends.
What is critical is that the Armor is located where it should be and with the 2 brand of leather Jackets mentioned I feel confident that it is going to be where it is supposed to be in the event a spill happens .
It should feel like it is in the right places when standing with the Jacket zipped up and Arms hanging naturally.
The difference between a medium and a large may be a wider spread than a Euro sized Jacket like the Dainese or Ducati which is sized like 42, 44, 46 etc.
Euro sized Jackets convert to US sizing in general by subtracting 10 from the Euro size.
So a Euro 56 would be a US 46 . How that translates into being a medium or large gets more difficult.
That's why it's better to find a Euro size that fits you and then convert it to US numerically and look for that size in US if a US sized Jacket is what you are looking at.
If the Jacket you want only comes s, m, l, xl.xxl.xxxl, xxxxl, then know that and xxxxl, is a US 50, xxxl, is a US 48. xl, 46, l, 44, m , 42 with some of the Ducati Jackets that are marked m,l,xl,xxl, xxxl, xxxxl.
I would say in general, snugger is better than looser . Dolph :)
