The new Tech Session will be on the May 16th it will cover both breaks and suspension. This class will have a five person minimum and a six person max. It will start at 9am and last four hours. If you say you are going to make it you owe the fifty buck unless we can get your spot filled by someone else. I will make every effort to get your spot filled but if I can't its still your spot. If we have ten to twelve people interested we will work on another class on the 23rd. If this class doesn't make will give it a shot again in a month or so.

Would love to go, but I'll be coming back from Germany that day!
Bummer. Look for me to attend one in july/aug when I have weekends off or plan one out two months ahead of time!

Is there any interest in a class on the same subjects on the 23rd?
I am trying for you Reducs.

If it happens, it happens. I've got a family reunion on the 16th, guess where I'd rather be. [bang]
Well, crap... [bang]
A friend is in from OOT on the 16th, so I need to re-schedule for the 23rd.
Valves & changing/bleeding clutch/brake fluids would be awesome [thumbsup]
Kirk-
Can you confirm the class on the 23rd will cover timing belts and valve adjustment? I am supposed to be in Austin on this Saturday morning but if this is offered I may come back Friday night. I am approaching 6K on my bike and I want to get this info as soon as possible.

Nope I can not confirm that the class will cover anything, I can't even confirm that there is a class on the 23rd. What is it that you guys want? Valves, breaks and belts and not suspension? Understand that this was meant to be a Roll over class for the the subjects on the 16th not a whole new class. It changes a good bit for Stuart and we have to get five to six people in this subject.
We need these things please.

I personally feel that it is too soon to do another valve class, but that is just my opinion. I do think that it should be performed on a 4 valve this time. Luckily I am getting close to my 7500 mile service.
On a side note, I really think that the person getting their valves checked should pay Stuart more than the $50 for the class. It would be really bad form if we started setting up these classes just to spread the cost of a service out between 5 or 6 people. Stuart is not doing this to make $200 for a $600 service.
Let's not abuse this resource.

I agree on the person having their valves checked etc. paying more. I won't be bringing my bike to any of the tech sessions as I prefer doing it myself at my own pace and for free.
I don't hear many people speaking up on topics to cover. L' Smart and I are throwing ideas out there for a future session. It doesn't necessarily have to be the next one but that would be nice.

Good point, & that's actually not the situation at all. I believe he demonstrates on a motor that's not in a frame?
Although I'd like to see the valves done, I personally would like to see brakes and clutch; replacing pads, maybe a rotor, fluid, brake line, plates, basket...
I''ve got a non-Ohlins Sport Classic, so my suspension class would take about 5 minutes! :'(

This is the case. He used some heads that were no longer usable and one that he was using for a project of his own.
If there is no interest in rolling over the class on breaks and suspension, what it seems we need to look at is doing a second independent class. The only thing that anyone has mentioned that is in line with the original class is breaks.
what has been mentioned is:
breaks
Valves
belts(tension?)
clutch bleeding
fluids(oil,break,clutch?)
Does this cover what you guys want? Am I missing anything?
Stuart likes Saturdays but is not married to it. I know alexisonfire has a conflict on the 23rd but it is not a deal breaker. Do you guys want the 23rd? What about the 30th or the 6th? Please note all of this is reliant on Stuart being OK with this so I will give him a call tomorrow afternoon to make sure it is even a possibility. Once this is hammered out we can see if we can get two or three more people. Does this look good to everyone?

Any of the above sounds good to me, as well as suspension, although with all that it's prolly enough material for at least 2 classes ;)
I'm flexible on class topics as well as date. (except the 16th :P )

Understand I don't know the technical aspects of what is involved in some of this, this sounds like too much for one class to me also. I am going to ask Stuart and let him respond and pair down as needed. You guys want valves and the rest would be nice? I am trying to prioritize, help me out here.
So here's an idea.
I've read this thread and see two challenges: When, and What to cover.
Instead of trying to take suggestions for topics & dates, then get a consensus on them, then check with Stuart (all which seems to be the challenge), how about this?
Collect an extensive laundry list of all the suggestions thrown out by everyone so far, and present that to Stuart.
Then, let Stuart review the list and break it down into 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 separate sessions (or how many he thinks it will take to cover everything on the list).
Each session will be numbered, and will have a list by Stuart of exactly what will be covered.
Then, advertise all the sessions and what they cover, thereby elminating one of the two challenges - "what to cover this time".
This way, anyone who might be interested in a Tech Session, can look at what will be covered and can pick and choose which sessions, and need only keep an eye out for a post where the session date is being selected/announced.
Just my $.02!
i'm down for a second class as well, but am not in Dallas from the 18th-28th, so I'd have to do something in June. Would really like to be there for something on valves. I want to know how to do a valve inspection, a valve adjustment, and MBP collets.
I just talked to Stuart and here is what we are going to do. First introduction to the suspension at the bench with a fork broken down. Second intro and walk through on one bike with owner on the bike and Staurt and someone helping. Next example bike but this owner on the bike and two class members doing the setup Stuart supervising. If this goes well we can split off and work on a couple of Bikes at once with Stuart supervising us through as many bikes as possible before we need to move on to breaks. I hope I answered you Questions about the 16th.
