Does anyone know where ethanol-free gasoline may be purchased in NM? I am very concerned that the increase in ethanol proposed for retail formulations is going to f*** with my vintage contraptions.
TIA,
Last I knew, the station at I-25 and Alameda did
Maybe the gas station at 1st and mountian??? they sell several kinds of gas there. thats where i get my shifter kart race gas from. kinda spendy, but its TRICK gasoline. also, yearwoods on eubank south of I-40 sells VP race gas of variety (different octane and whatnot) also, quite expensive. hope this helps, apologies if it does not.
Those were the places I was going to recomend also. The synthetic TRICK fuel is fantastic, if for nothing else to run through your bike on ocassion (don't know that anyones wallet would hold up to regular fill ups), the older bikes love it. You should read up on it first though. http://www.trickgas.com/ (http://www.trickgas.com/)
Unless it's changed I've always heard that none of the stations in rio rancho have ethanol because they don't have emissions testing in sandoval county. That was a year or two ago when I heard that so who knows if that's still the case or not.
The deal is anymore that even if a county is not required to pump Ethanol, all the Major companies still will. 8800 gallon load of gas (what a tanker holds) with 8-10% ethanol is a lot cheaper than 8800 gal of clear gas. Sad this is how it works, but true. I have a friend that is the Shell wholesaler for N. NM. And my best friend in Taos owns 2 stations. Bottom line is, at a mile high nothing runs worth a darn (especially carbed motors). And if you've been buying from the big boys in the past few years it was in there.
For those of you that are new to high elevation riding, don't panic when you go to the pumps in the mountains. A lot of stations don't sell high octane fuel (over 87), it is to no advantage based on the air pressure. This rule especially applies to carbed motors seeing as they can not readjust mixture on the fly.

I looked at the Phillips and the Chevron, and both sold the ethanol-crap. Did I miss the good place? Still looking for a local distributor/retailer of ethanol-free fuel, if anyone knows of one.
FWIW, Sandoval County was not part of the non-attainment area for Carbon Monoxide, so they did not have to alter their fuel formula. Bernalillo County, under the same State Implementation Plan, made emissions testing part of the vehicle registration process. I would drive to Sandoval County to get ethanol-free gas if I knew of a place. . .
Please don't make me quote myself. Do your dinosaur bikes run well _yes _no?
If you checked yes... fill'r up & go ride.
Seriously, your seals won't dry up & your motor won't seize. But if it does... IT'S OLD, that's what makes it cool.
