Title: Ride Route Suggestions (White Bear Area)
Post by: minnesotamonster on May 31, 2009, 10:11:48 AM
Hi everybody. Have a few hours to kill this afternoon and am still trying to find some nice roads in the area. Any suggestions on some nice roads nearby? I'm looking for a nice long loop that'll last a couple hours. Looking at google, it looks like I might have to cross the border into WI (which is fine).  If anybody wants to come along you are more than welcome. Thanks!

I don't have any great routes, but I live in Oakdale and here's the couple ways I usually go...

I take the frontage roads along 94 EB until I cross Neal Ave.  Then I turn south on Indian Trail, take that until it dead ends into Stagecoach Trail and take that into Afton.  If you take that main road, St Croix Trail I think, south out of Afton you hit the best piece of asphalt that I've come across in Minnesota.  The bad part is that it's a 30 mph zone, but, I've only seen it heavily patrolled on the nice weekends.  I usually make a couple passes up and down that and if I'm looking for a longer ride I'll take that same road all the way south to Prescott.  That part's kind of boring but then you can cross over into WI and take Old 35 or explore and find an alphabet road.

Most of that ride isn't that fast or demanding but the scenery is decent and it's curvy enough for me to keep it interesting.

I love the new long sweeping ramp connecting 35E southbound with 694 eastbound.  It feels well over a 90degree turn.  It would be a blast to take that at high speed but I have yet to take it without stupid cagers in my way  [bang]
