Thought we try something different. When i was scraping Robs4r off the pavement, mentioned Rabbitsfoot Meadery and it looks very tasty [drink]. They make their own wine, cider, beer and mead. We'll head there first then over to St John's for food. The Meadery only has refreshments no food and they close early so start time will be 5:30pm they close at 7pm. If there is enough of us i'll see if they can do a private tasting. What is Mead? read below.
Let me know if you plan to make it so i can see about the tasting.

What is Mead?
Mead is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey and water, sometimes with fruit and spices added as flavorings.
Contrary to popular belief, Mead is not simply a sweet wine produced from honey. Mead can be dry, semi-sweet, sweet or include other fruits. It can be as varied as the honey from which it is made.
Mead has been called by many different names including: melomel, cyser, pyment and metheglin. It is typically clear with a slight gold tint and with an alcohol content of between 7-18%.
By varying the proportions of honey and water and the point at which fermentation is stopped, a wide variety of types can be produced ranging from a very dry and light, to sweet and heavily bodied. If fermentation is left to continue while bottled, a sparkling mead resembling a sparkling white wine or champagne can be produced.
The main ingredient of any mead is honey. Both the flavor and the color of the honey depend on the variety of the flower that the nectar comes from. Clover honey is light in color and mild, while honey from buckwheat is much darker and stronger. Honey is rich in simple sugars; dextrose and levulose and contains more calories than ordinary sugar in addition to sodium, iron and potassium levels that make it ideal for fermentation.
Mead can be broken down into general categories like sweet, medium and dry as well as still or sparkling.
We use several different varieties of honey each with their own unique characteristics. By purchasing only those honeys that meet our exacting standards are we able to control the end result. Click here for a short history of mead .
is it mediocre mead :-X ... or really really good mead? [drink]
I might show to this--told you I'd try to make an appearance at one or two of these. I probably can't make it till after 7 though. I'll be riding, so no drinking--but it would be cool to try a little mead if someone wants to smuggle out a dixie cup of it for me. [cheeky]
Not sure what time I'll be done with work, but I'm in.

more facts about mead
The term ‘Honeymoon’ comes from the common practice of drinking honey wine for a full cycle of the moon during medieval times. Mead was considered an aphrodisiac and the newly married couple were to drink mead for the first month of their marriage to ensure that the union would be fruitful one.

And as of now having another friend or two meet us at 6 if that helps at all with the tasting.
Hmmm. Mead sounds good. first time for me. But honey-flavored beer.. mmmmmm. [beer] I would go anywhere for it, but its right next door to mountain view.. Nice.
Only question is, me not sure if I and my girl can make it as early as 6 and if at all I am coming.. how do I know who you guys are and how would you know who I am?? you see I have been a silent watcher on here for almost a year now... :-[

from your avitar photo, it looks like you already know dtm, or at least have gone off-road riding with him.
if not ... just look for a cloud of noxious fumes and/or REALLY bad smell, and dtm will be under or in front of it.
OK...so I have to be down in S. Bay for work in the afternoon, and I'm gonna knock off a couple of hours early to join you losers for MEAD!!!!!! I most likely won't be staying for the food...cuz I just don't like y'all enough to spend that much time with you or listen to more of John C's DTM gas jokes. :P
I'll be in San Jose tomorrow morning. I can't imagine I'll be there until the evening, but if I am, I may stop by.

I'm thinking about heading down for the mead sampling as well, I've got to be in the south bay area this afternoon as well.

Nice meeting you. We hope to see you both again soon.
Yes, that mead was fantastic. [drink] I wouldn't have guessed there was a meadery in the middle of an industrial part of Sunnyvale. Thanks guys for the warm welcome. I look forward to seeing/riding with you guys soon. [moto]
Nice to see everyone tonight. [beer]
Great times! Thanks Dan for organizing!
Though I think between Mr I's typical dry wit, Ptam's... interesting... choice of culinary conversation, Rob's sushi chef showdown stories, and my cider induced slurring, Dan's buddy is either traumatized (didn't seem it) or has the total right idea about us. [laugh] [drink]
Fun times, thank for coming out [beer]
Good seeing everyone...
Now time to grab that cold diabhal I have sitting in the fridge [drink]

I too am going in for my Mead waiting in my fridge (so thankful for my day off). Reminds me of the alcohol-fueled-Prius-Bashing [cheeky] that was going on. Some even agreed Prius drivers have an unusual righteous air about themselves being the King of the road (maybe even off-road) [roll]
I finally tried the bottle of honey apple cider last night...
That is by faaarrr the best hard cider I have ever had!
When we going back? [wine]
