The monthly Ducati ride is happening this Sunday, June 7. Meet up at South Seas Honda Ducati at 10:30am. Ride out is 11:00am. It'd be good to see some of you folks there!
ah, bollocks.
you boys have fun.
I'll be working. It's my monthly "Train the reservists" day.
Looks like I will finally be able to say "next time"...
So far the plan has been to do the ride on the 1st Sunday of every month. There is talk of doing it the 2nd Sunday so the folks in the reserves can go. If that helps anyone here then pass it on to me & I'll make sure the organizers know.

I'm going for sure. See you tomorrow.
Well, poo! R-lo pops up and I'm working. It's a conspiracy, I say!
I'll do my part in getting the ride moved to the 2nd Sunday of each month starting next month!

R=Lo was there, I testify. Those Termi's sure sound sweet too.
Next months ride is the second Sunday of the month so no excuses.

Most excellent indeedy.
Thanks Mac. That 848 of yours is looking pretty good!
That was a great ride, but we need more Monsters out there. There were only 2 out there today---hint, hint!
we'll see, I guess
Any word on whether or not this is still on for this coming Sunday?
Haven't heard anything to the contrary.
Wunderbar!
1030, eh?
should be able to make it...
Yeah, so guess what? The silly reservists decided not to come in on the holiday weekend, so we get to work next weekend instead. woo-hoo!
:P
Got the official text message last night that the ride is on. Meet up at South Seas Nimitz at 10:30am. Ride out around 11:00am, give or take.
meh.
Try not to be too enthusiastic would you?
FWIW ---- The official once a month ride is on for this Sunday, August 9th. Meet up at 10:30am at South Seas Nimitz. I know for most of the folks that isn't going to work but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.
Yes
I'm down. Anyone else going?
I should be there...

See you guys then.

The scenery is great but the roads on Oahu suck. Hope you're not hoping for anything spectacular like the Tail of the Dragon or Colorado/Oregon type roads.
What he (^) said. There are only a few good roads here to rip through, and for the most part they are either through very exclusive residential areas (meaning the cops come a runnin') or they are so clogged with traffic you can barely do more than 30.
But we do our best. ;)

They were. It seems the 4th of July weekend screwed everything up. They (understandably) didn't go in that weekend and waited until the next week. No I can only guess that they wanted to wait a full month? Or maybe it's the first weekend following the first Friday. I don't really know, but if I remember, I'll ask.
Looks like I'm out as well. I had been asked to pick up a Friend of mine when he flew in tonight. Just got a message from him that he changed his flight and will now be arriving at 11:30. >:(
Nice a varied turn out today. Shame there really wasn't any twisty riding until the very end...

It was good having you come out Gene. Rick and I will be doing our usual weekly thing again next week; assuming he hasn't flown the coup and headed off to Colorado by then. ;)
wow, looks like you guys had a good time! anyone took a dip in Waimea :) Variety is the key, monster, sc, sf, sb. Too bad I couldn't make it today, but next time.
Colorado is 4 weeks away. The three of us had fun on the way home too. Meeting new folks was good for sure but parade riding sucks. Running that route in reverse some early Sunday morning when we would have more open road and some breakfast at the end might be a whole lot more fun.

Just got an email from Jose, he says ride is Saturday, meet at 10:00 ride out at 10:30...
Yep, just got the same message. Looks like we can maybe have two good ride days this weekend, weather allowing.
I'll be finishing up a 12 mile foot march about that time. I'll be lucky if I can move my legs too much. I'll try to make it on sunday though.
Working Saturday. Sunday looks good.

Dude! Get your priorities straight would ya? Tell the SGM that you've got more important things to do than to go tip-toeing through the tulips with him.
It's that time again. Jose' says meetup at South Seas Nimitz this coming Sunday at 10:30 am --- Ride out at 11am. I'll be on the mainland for a week so I won't make that ride until next month. See you guys in a couple of weeks.
Yep, got the message as well.
Have a good trip!
You guys didn't miss out on much today. The ride was more like, let's all go run Jose's errands with him. Don't think I am making many more of these rides in the future...

Saw you and two others heading East on H1 in the vicinty of Waipahu at about 12:30, then 45 minutes or so later Jose, Emile and two others in an Ewa parking lot...
Ended up putting my bike in the show that went down today after the ride. Got Best Ducati and 2nd place sport bike 851-1200cc.

I can probably show for an early ride, but the main event is out. Mom is arriving Tuesday, so it's serious crunch time on unfinished renovations.
At what time are you guys heading out? And where are you guys meeting at? Let me know! This time my bike's all sorted out and I have Sunday off!
The monthly ride thing will start up at South Sea's, around ten thirty or so. Or at least that is when people start showing up. Usually roll out some time around eleven or so.
I might head down to the Ward Ave meet up spot a little early, and go get a few twisties in before that though...
That's a negatoodle. I thought I might be able to pop out early, but I am still nicely behind schedule.
I guess I can swing by... at least to look at bikes...
Actually had a pretty good turn out today. Quite a few SBKs made it. Dusty brought out the 999 with ARC Fab exhaust. Damn that thing sounded mean!

Sorry I missed it, wound up autocrossing in the rain...standing water plus r-compound tires, yeehaw!...
Hey the rain caught us too. Coming back from the North Shore the cloudbase was on the ground. Rain started around Schofield/Wheeler and stayed with us until just uphill from the interchange. Went to Varsity for burgers and beers and the rain caught up with us there. Got rained on all the way home. >:(

I left right after you guys and got rained on on the way home...I really didn't want to get caught in a downpour with my front tire...fun times!
Today also made me realize that I need to work on my riding skills...

You'd think so. It'd be nice to have the 848 done by then but I'm not holding my breath.
We shall see. Not sure if I am going to go out on this one anyhow. Last couple of them have been a bit of a cluster make the beast with two backs.
Got the message from Jose' today. He wants to go on Saturday morning. That automatically takes me out of the picture.
Got the same message. Still think I'm going to sit this one out. Rick, let me know what time you want to meet up that afternoon.
what happened at the last ones?
well the one in November was "lets go to waianae"... i just came from waianae and it was raining. the one in December was a combined toys for tots thing and that just wasnt my thing... not sure about January, i just didnt go, but ill probably go this saturday just to get out of the house.
Jan's was kind of like "let's go and find a bunch of crowded residential streets to take a large pack of Ducati sport bikes on". For me, I want a ride with that many bikes (and riders of different skill levels) to be planned out a bit better.
it would be nice to know before hand where we are going and what time we are stopping at what ever places, but i am looking forward to riding with the more accomplished riders so that i can learn better technique build up my skill level.
cause always riding with noobs leads to bad habbits :-[
Jose' generally has a route planned out but you just have to ask him. Somehow I think there is a type of logic, if you will, that dictates riding through residential areas and Waikiki if there are inexperienced riders with non-superbikes in the bunch. Did you notice that on one of the rides where it was mostly superbikes that we didn't do any crowded street riding? Big pack riding is not really going to help out with any skills as the group gets rather spread out. Without going to a track day or one of the schools it's hard to hone skills in a large group. I think one would be better off riding with two or three others who are willing to vary their pace, stop & talk, and ride over the same sections of road to practice. Plus it's tough out here because the traffic and road conditions can vary from minute to minute.
Saturday almost always has more road congestion and besides I have my morning shop thing to do as a rule. This Sat I have to install new fuel lines on Gloria's SL and put my bike back together.
Quote from: mac900 on February 11, 2010, 06:31:45 AMThis Sat I have to install new fuel lines on Gloria's SL and put my bike back together.
Let me know when you are going to be down there. I'll give you a hand with both chores if we can also do a bit of adjustments to the rear sus on the SD.
today was good fun, went to 13 turn for the first time and now have a new favorite road to play on... shame its on the other side of the island
13T is a good road, but those patches of moss are unpredictable and can catch you from time to time even if it hasn't rained in a few days. I still think Norfolk is my favorite road on the island, with Tantalus following in a close second.
norfolk? not sure if i have been on that stretch yet, i really need to follow you guys out more often. as for tantalus ... well my lack of skill needs to vastly improve in order for me to enjoy that road a bit more... i was stuck behind a group of kids on mopeds going up and was able to stay on their asses close enough, but going down the lil make the beast with two backsers lost me. hahahahaha.
perhaps the GFs 696 would be a better bike for me to practice tantalus on just till i learn the road better.
The 848 is best bike I've ever ridden over Tantalus. Better than the 750 Gixxer I had. Much better than the Monster 900 & way better than the 999, which absolutely hated that road. As for everthing else I've ridden up there over the last 40 years all of the above bikes would have nailed them. BTW, the 848 is running stock gearing which I think is perfect. However if anyone had a 14T front 848 and wanted to let me try it I wouldn't mind at all.
So it just takes some practice and knowing the road. [moto]

That would have been a used 67 or 68 Yamaha YM2 305cc. The road was paved but had far fewer houses and the tree overgrowth was a lot less. In one particularly intense run on a Honda CB350 I turned the front brake drum a light gold color that never returned to the anodized silver that it started life with. Every now and then we'd do coast races. Get up to the top, shut the engines off and race down using gravity. ;D

I thought it was great before the work was done. Just more so now and you are welcome to try it out anytime!!
I didn't notice any cut trees when I went through there today. If they were on the mountain side of the road that's state land. If it was down just up the the Waimanalo entrance then it could be the 4 wheeler off roaders at work.

Some do and I could if I simply wouldn't go into the shop. Then again the stitches won't come out of my finger until next Monday so I'm out until the 13th. Of course the doc's office went nuts when I told them I would redo the dressing this Thurs or Fri. Yep. Except that your "twin" was a tad squirrelly at times. We'll know to give him a little extra room.

yeah, it was a little nevry running next to him...before we started off he said he would be bringing up the rear, but he was almost at mid pack a good bit of the way...

C'mon everyone. Let's not get too carried away at the expense of someone else. (I know that it's fun to do though) It's true that a couple of pointers regarding safety while riding in a group are warranted but at least he shows interest and is enthusiastic. Then again it may be a valid measure of one's personality if they can stand a little razzing.
Are we talking about Robert or Jose'?

Yea, sorry I never called you back. We went out, one guy went down and the ride pretty much fizzled from there. Ended up at Varsity for a few beers then everyone went home.

Dood!! That sounds like it would have hit the spot!! Should have gone there after Tantalus.
Who went down? It wasnt that purty Nicky Hayden bike was it??
No, but it was a purdy brand make the beast with two backsing new 1198S. It was a new guy (squid-lite) who works for Tim (Hayden bike). Poor thing had something like 300 miles on it and down it went.
i was going to take more pics but felt i would have been in bad taste. i really wanted some of the bike when it was pinned between the road sign and the wood fence but figured it was better if i just help get it up and out before someone called the cops.

No harm, no foul. You should have gotten a picture of the wedged bike. If there is no serious blood, broken bones or other vehicles involved we keep it to ourselves. We don't need no stinking badges! One thing to keep in mind, an 1198S has a much higher cover charge than a Daytona, and that could very well have bearing on wether or not they will total the bike. Now having said that, I do know that the steering stop up under the nose fairing was trashed...
i went down today to check on my 848 and have the 696 looked at since my turn signals, horn, and brake lights decided to stop working so i asked about the 1198s and they said probly totalled but Will hasnt done the actual inspection yet so Sean was not 100% sure what was going to happen yet.

There I was, last Sunday, actually yesterday, working on the 620's at the shop, with some help from Gene. (thank you Gene). I pulled out the end caps for my Termi's (so I could take them up to Anne's & Brian's place for some ceramic coating) and offered to use the slidehammer to remove the baffles on Gene's bike. I even told him that we could put them back in right away if he wanted to. No dice. [bang]
What a wus! [roll] ---- No. I keed, I keed. Little bit. It's all good. They make just enough noise for him.
On the other hand those unrestricted Termi's are way loud in the tunnels. Hee Hee.

I betcha that the separate tunes will be very close to each other with, or without, the baffles.
BTW, I have a Db meter if you want to test some objective numbers. It's very surprising.

Need another 1K miles on the bike first though, as I want to get the 7.5K service done before I mess with ECU programming.

Just curious. You just had it in there for the case work. Couldn't you have done it all at once, maybe on two separate work orders so the insurance work wouldn't get confused with the customer pay work?

i begged and pleaded that they do it at the same time cause i really couldnt see the point in bringing the bike back to the shop a week later after its been sitting there for 3 months. but because i only had 7003 miles on the odo they said that my Free service would not be covered untill i hit 7500miles. so either i pay for the service out of pocket or i wait till i hit that many miles... i chose to wait. besides i have my eye and wallet set on a certain CF helmet with a transition visor that would do me much better then giving the dealership more of my money for a service that i get for free.

Yup, all the way out to Kaena Point...wasn't all that boring for me though, as I was playing dodg'em with Robert...he was doing his usual, speed up and pass, then fall back...once we were all lane changing and he was behind me, I go to move left into the fast lane following the leaders and he's there already right next to me, startled me good.
Had a talk with him and told him that he couldn't be doing that, he said that he liked to be up front with the faster guys...I told him that's fine, just don't be checking up entering the sweepers if that's where he wanted to be...

When I spoke to him he became kind of defensive, so I figure one of the more experienced guys should tell him...problem is most of them don't see his antics 'cause they're in the front...
who is this guy? what is he riding?
he's the other old guy on the other white Streetfighter...whackie refers to him as my brother...
oh that guy... ill have to keep an eye on him next time we ride, thanks for the heads up... so ummmm maybe we should give him a list of proper group riding etiquette and rules.
He appears to be a nice guy, he just doesn't have a clue...kind of a happy-go-lucky sort out for a Sunday stroll in the park...
I don't mean to bad mouth the guy...later in our conversation he was apologetic and said he would try to stay out of my way, not the point I was trying to make...I kind of hang back as I'm no hot shoe on a bike and am just getting comfortable on the SF, and as he told me, Robert likes keep the correct interval with the lead riders...he does this fine in a straight line, but when the road gets curvy he can't maintain and is in the way...
i don't think you're bad mouthing him. i've seen him do some interesting stuff. on the last ride i think he freaked out the guy on the 1198S when we were coming out of the H3 tunnels.
it's partly because of guys like him that i ride in the back. i've seen a couple nasty accidents because someone in the middle messed up and took someone else out. don't apologize for being concerned.
a noobie friend of mine who touched a bike for the first time in the BRC at lcc then rode a ninja 500 for a month before buying a brand new 09 cbr 1000 was like that. good kid just clueless. so on one of our friday night rides i told him what was what. and he was cool with it and chilled out a lot.

Perfectly natural reaction for most folks. Maybe a check sheet group ride rules of the road should be made up and emailed to everyone. Experienced riders and those who are naturally aware of what's going on around them know these "rules" without having to be told. I don't know how experienced Robert is but his awareness level needs work for sure.
Another alternative is to either ride at the rear or ride more aggressively so that you are always in front of him. I have been on two rides where I was riding directly behind him and it was nerve wracking.

I did that yesterday by establishing myself behind Jose, Brandon, Bob and Trey into the two on/off ramps that we did and he was substantially behind at that point...he didn't start his surge routine until we were on Farrington Hwy past Ko Olina...
maybe we should just email him this thread and hopefully he will get the hint ;D

I'm going to compile a list of "Pointers for Large Group Rides" and send it off to Jose'.
Think I'll start with making sure you've filled up with gas prior to the meetup. Generally speaking we've never really left anyone behind at the start of the ride but after standing around for about an hour it's kind of dumb to get going only to flick over to gas station and wait all over again.
Any other suggestions?

Well, that people should come to grips with the fact that they should not try to hang out with the fast guys (up front) if they aren't one of the fast guys.
There is nothing wrong with making sure someone knows their place, and that they should stay in that place, when it becomes a safety issue for the other members of the ride. If they don't like it, they can always choose to stay home.
a general list of how to ride in a group, you know the basics. Like not crowding another rider, picking a spot in the group and sticking with it, not passing between 2 riders that are in the same lane or passing a guy in a long sweeping corner and crossing his line right in front of him.
some of the guys have very little experience and no i idea of riding etiquette and tact... i am sure i have done a thing or two that might not have been kosher and if i have i would appriciate someone giving me the heads up so that i dont do it again. i look forward to seeing the list.

That's my choice on the big group rides. And, let's be honest, lots of the smaller group rides too... [cheeky]

meet at 10:30 ride out by 11.
did anyone ever talk to Jose about general guidelines for the big group rides? the do's and don't's
common courtesy, fueling up before the ride starts, and not totaling out 1198 S's ?
Nice ride today, had a lot of fun...you guys make me feel 50 again... ;D
Good enough ride for the part that I was on. Could have done without the trip through Kaneohe though. I almost bailed at that intersection where we went left.
Rode thru Tantalus after lunch, it was wet... :( Would have enjoyed norfolk more if we did a round trip.
what a nice turn out.
towards the end of the ride, i was getting sketchy. don't know if it was lack of sleep, new gpr, or changing my riding style.
btw love the gpr, but it does feel different.
It's supposed to feel different I suppose but not intrusive. Funny about getting sketchy. Me too. The pre-lim ride went well & I had a good feel going. Same for the first part of the Ducati ride but after we stopped at the top of Norfolk I felt like l lost my timing or something.
Nice that we were blessed with two fine days of riding weather. I woke up this morning and it was raining all over on the windward side.

No one should mind. Nothing dramatic or illegal happens on these rides. Apart from the occasional crash that no one can explain. Then again I don't know how good a droid is but the standard these days is a GoPro. [thumbsup]
I may not make it Saturday. First off, I don't know what commitments I'd have with customers for any special pick ups. Secondly, and more importantly, I hate traffic during mid days on Saturdays. Late afternoon is more my style. Thirdly, I might be changing a chain on a Ninja with Tim. I thought these things were switched back to Sundays permanently anyway??? [roll]

Just got an email from Jose...this month's ride is on Saturday 1/8, meet @ 10:30, ride out at 11:00...
Yea, The last ride was in November and it was only you, me & Darren? Then no ride in December unless he's counting the Toys for Tots thing. Now it's a Saturday thing again?
Normally I'd prefer Sunday, but this weekend Saturday works out for me as I have autocross on Sunday...
Decisions, decisions, decisions. I was planning on doing an oil change on the 848 Sat morning and then running it down to Will to have him replace the cam belts.
Then it was to be back to the shop to work on the 240D. Something happened a week ago and it's only making 40 mph up the Pali. Changed fuel filters the other night, no diff. Throttle is getting full travel so it's either tight valves or a clogged screen in the bottom of the fuel tank.
Hmmmm
That's what you get for making plans... ;)

Well, as of last Wednesday I was officially declared unable to deploy by my doc, due to my back being trashed from the last deployment. The really funny thing is that certain offices are still trying to say that I'm going, even though my name STILL hasn't been allocated to any particular requirement.

Soo wheres the next meet up? im good to go. I got two of my Hurricane customs here (i got to sell one due to my wife being pregnant and all) and I just picked up a new 2011 Hyper EVO SP (that will never be sold!!! lol) so let me know where the next get together is.
Thanks

Welcome Jeff!! I take it then that you are the son of Norm, fabricator exemplor from the old DML, that I remember fondly. Well great!! Our next semi-official outing should be a week from this Saturday although there may be some issues with that. Stay tuned. The 1100 Evo may be a near perfect bike over here although I think the Streetfighter takes it overall. My little 848 works pretty good too. Maybe I'll steal my friend's Hyper 1100S next time we all go riding. We'll definitely hook up sometime. [moto] [thumbsup]
Welcome Jeff!

And ps. My Moto-gt2 racer now turned into a balls out street fighter, MAY help you redefine the definition "street fighter" ;)
im also looking for a 996 / 998 tank (cheep and clean) so i can replace my display tank, as I have the bike inside the house as a man cave display.

Actually that's not too bad. When they made the Benly 250 & Benly 305 they set a new standard in ugly. Those bikes guaranteed the success of the CB/CL72 and the CB/CL77.
And I bet everyone else here has to do a Google search to even know what Gene & are talking about.

Actually if you ever rode on of the things you'd be underimpressed. They were something in the mid sixties but only because they actually started and ran and were easier to obtain & maintain than Triumphs and BSA's. Hindsight blindsight nostalgia.
I'd still rock it to the coffee bar. ;D
Definitely good for that. They were good, don't get me wrong. Slower than the Yamahas though but still way better than those Aermacchi's that people get all warm & misty over.
SOOOOO ...... About this monthly Ducati ride?
Is anyone gona be talking about when the next one is? lol
Im looking forward to some [moto] [moto] with a flock of ducks 8)
the second weekend of the month so its coming up. not sure if its sat or sun though
There's also the usual Sunday morning ride you know. Just sayin...
I think it's supposed to be this Sat. Doubtful that I will make it but you can never tell. I seem to recall swearing off Sat rides due to the low participation and the history of sitting in traffic. That and Sat is usually the day I work on the bike(s) but I would like to get out & meet some new folks too.
I also got a new bud Will ( not the tech at the duc shop) but he just picked up a all white with red rims 2011 848. (he might be able to make it) im a defiant tho.

This coming Sunday is the April Monthly Ride ---- 10:30 meet up at South Seas and ride out around 11:00 am. Let's hope that there is good weather and more new folks. I will try to influence the route some more and also make it more friendly to the newer riders. May need some help from the regulars on that. We used to have big rides in the past and while that is not what I go for on a weekly basis it is still fun to see lots of new folks, or old folks, and different bikes. A lot of folks dropped out because of a bit of the street racer mentality at the front so I will try to set a different tone even if the group splits. We can always have check points where we meet up at slightly different times.
Unfortunately I won't be making this one... :(

i [bow_down] to the rain gods and prey for good [moto] weather this weekend.
Weather gods here have not been happy. Wed & Thurs, it's been sunny, almost windless and warm while I was stuck at work. This weekend, which started yesterday it will be cold, cloudy and rainy on Fri & Sat and warming up a touch (a completely cloudy warm) for Sun. Forecast for Mon through Thurs next week? Sunny and warm, with showers arriving just in time for the weekend.
[thumbsdown]
It's 0310 and just getting ready for bed. not sure if I will wake up in time for the ride...
Not a bad ride today. Had fun and no one got crazy. I bailed a tad early up at the Tantalus lookout. There was talk of lunch at Hooters. Great....I can't wait. Luckily, I'm signed up for the military track day this Wednesday (20APR)...it should quell my cravings for a little bike fun. I know, it's just a coned off road course on the runway/taxiway, but fun no less. [drool]

So how did the track day turn out?
It was a great time. I got called in a few times during the first session, before I realized I was going back to my old habit of looking too close in, instead of all the way through the turn. Once I did that, I became much more relaxed and enjoyed the hair pin and double apex corners! Luckily, this is the first time the military has touched something and kept it fun!
I still can't wait for the next group outing. Unfortunately, I only ride my bike to/from work during the workday and won't ride on the wkend unless I'm meeting up w/ someone.
I was out there on my hyper Wed. Am sesson ... and I was working flag #1 that afternoon. I also thought it was about as much fun one can have while playing on a taxi runway...and when the next one comes around (idk when) but ill be out there for that one too.

The second half of the ride was definitely better. I just don't know why Jose seems to like routes like Kam Hwy out to Chinaman's Hat. That's an almost new 1198 that belongs to guy named Allejandro (hope I spelled that right). Yesterday might have been his first time riding with us and was his first time over Tantalus.
Haven't heard or seen Emile since the opening round of MotoGP at Qatar. That is, he was over here for a short visit at that time.

At the lookout break Ken was telling Al that he was doing good for the first time on the road. I was leading and took about 5 slowdown "ease offs" so the group could reform from time to time so I can't really comment. I can easily imagine that a rider's first time over that road isn't going to be super on any bike let alone trying to wrestle an 1198 through there. [laugh] [moto]
Lol, I am in no way quick on that road. But the dude didnt make me want to kick him over. And he at least leaned into the hairpins rather then going so slow as to steer with th handle bars *cough cough* busa *caugh* so I cant complain much haha
Are you referring to Brandon's friend on the 'Busa that went along with us on one of the Sunday Rides?
Lol maybe, and I do understand he was on almost 500 lbs of bike and it was stretched out a bit more then stock. but he was not the only one. The last few times I went up there with a group I have been behind guys who are very conservative and eventually let me pass. Always at the top after we pass my favorite parts. But its all good, and one day I will be able to keep up with the cool kids.
Here's a couple of hints for Tantalus. If you don't want to be behind someone you have to establish yourself in front of them at the bottom. No shame, but then you should be sure enough of yourself that you don't hold them back either or be ready to move over, no shame either. Hint #2 --- the downhill is it's own special half and can be just as much fun as going up. The downhill gives you lots of opportunities to practice smoothness. [thumbsup] [moto]

All sort of said and done, has anyone heard from Jose'? The ride should be this Sunday but as of last week his bike was in the shop due to some parking lot damage. That is, Shawn told me that it got hit and knocked over. Don't know how bad the damage is. The poor guy doesn't have the luck.
Also I thought I heard him talking to someone about changing the date? Maybe? He didn't say anything else to anyone as far as I know.

Spoke with Bill at SSD little while ago, he's checking with Jose and will let me know...according to the schedule that Jose left at SSD, tomorrow is the day.
I just checked the UHMET/SOUEST site and they are calling for the current upper level low to strengthen a bit this afternoon and tomorrow which equals greater rain shower action.
We'll see..............
This upper level trough has been sitting up there for about the last month or more which is why it's been raining more than normal for this time of year. They are calling for a strengthening high pressure ridge to move in later in the week which is supposed to push the trough out for good.......
again, we'll see.

I was going to ask if you've taken flying lessons, you sounded like my flight instructor in FL. :-D
Aviation connected from birth. Dad was instrument rated, multi engine instructor and even had an ATP rating. Other families went hunting & fishing. We flew all over.
Sun's trying to push through, but still a bit damp for me...I'm going to do some chores, maybe watch MotoGP & hope for a sunny afternoon...
I just watched Maunawili & the Pali disappear while coming back from Sunday morning chores. Hmmm..... will have to keep an eye on things but this might be a day to catch up on the back burner projects.
It's definite been wet so far in maunawili. Sound like there will not be a duc ride, at least the 1030 one?
It's sunny in Waikiki, facing east towards diamond head and Hanauama Bay. Anyone interested in re-setting the time for 12:00 at Southseas and going from there?
I'm going to head over that way in a few minutes. Take my chances.

Sort of seems that way. Looks like your 675 guy had a good time at Miller CSBS. That was the exact class that I was looking at going to. Maybe next year. There always seems to be a scheduling conflict with Boss-ski's cycling trips to Europe. Maybe instead of Miller I should go to Laguna.
Jim had a BLAST out there. He and I are on our way out towards WV now, so I'll get to see what he learned.
I need to do a riding school before I run out of time...maybe next year, too many trips scheduled already for this year...
Have a fun ride everyone. Hope the weather is great for you. I caught a nasty cold in Maui and am down for the weekend. Sucks cause this was my only Sunday off in a while.

It was good to see Rick and Jinx and get back on my bike after a long break ... but the ride was otherwise [bang]. How was your autocross playtime?
how many showed up?
There were 5 of us. Watching Majdi reminds me of the 999. I was riding with Ranilo and Teddy one time and as we got on the right hand cloverleaf onramp townbound from Mililani Mauka those two just rode away from me. I could not make that damn 999 turn nor get a good feel from it once in the turn. I don't remember if that was before or after all the suspension adjustments. Going to the Gixxer from that bike was like night & day as far as handling was concerned. Those big twins are just not easy to ride compared to lots of other bikes. [bang] Unreal that you spend that much money on a Duc and that you still have to work on it. Of course, if you spend another $4,000 to $5,000 (or more) suggested retail on parts, not counting labor, you can make them work better. [bang]

Funny, I've been reading Dan Kyle's forum posts all day and trying to figure out what's best for me (w/out getting carried away since an AMA pro card is not in my future). I'd like to tweek my rear suspension to get closer to 30mm. Its still too firm and gives me an occasional ass slap to remind me.
On a totally different note, Teresa rocks...she paid for the EVR slipper...interested in coaching me on how to install the slipper?

If the rear spring rate is too stiff, too high, for you then all of the static sag settings in the world will not help. It will continue to be a problem over bumps and when accelerating because you will always be fighting the spring. It always cracks me up to read about the 848 riders taking out the spring pre-load thinking that will help. The first time they start getting some dynamic spring action during a ride they will be right back at square one. The 1198 spring rate is lower but still better. Riding style and speed also have a huge effect here. More is going on in the suspension than I care to elaborate on here and now.........
I would have gone for a TTX long before a slipper but we are all different. Unless you are charging hard into a corner and are using up road so fast you don't have time to blip properly the slipper will be of very limited use. Not that it wouldn't be a good thing to have when you need it, it's just that I doubt any of us ride hard enough to make much use of one. I'll mull over the installation part.
I agree on the slipper, the only reason I got it (used) was because of the price compared to getting a pressure plate and open cover. No worries about the install, I can drop it off to Will...just like to learn how the bike works. I would like to pick your brain some more about suspension setups based on what you did with the 848...save it for another cup of joe.
I fully and completely agree that the slipper price was an excellent deal. I don't think the installation part is so hard and I'm totally fine with Will doing it as he's more qualified than I am. Here's the next part. The EVR is adjustable so unless you are lucky on the first try you might have to go back a few times dialing it in to where you like it.
Your static rear sag with you on the bike is 34mm. Ohlins recommendation is between 25mm to 40mm. You should be totally fine with that. Setting it to 30mm will only make it a bit stiffer but it will raise the rear a bit, which should help with turn in. We could also raise the rear by using the ride height adjuster, which would be an option that I would recommend, depending on how the bike is actually responding.
The 30mm number that is usually batted about in the forums mostly refers to the front triple offset. This is something that the forum folks have latched onto and rave about. I have it directly from Dan Kyle himself ( or someone who was representing himself as Dan [laugh] ) that the front triple offset setup really only works for racing applications where you are wide open throttle exiting a corner. Apart from that instance any other handling/cornering characteristics can be adjusted with fork & shock setups and ride height adjustments. Most all of the Dan Kyle recommendations are base on racing applications and not so much towards street riding.
More later.......

Yep. I suppose that dropping the front end angle as much as it did to accommodate the replacement forks and the carbon feather weight wheels didn't have nearly the effect that the 30mm triples did. [laugh] Assuming, that is, that the SC has the same front end geometry as the Superbikes do. [laugh]

I swear the rear sag measured at a very low number when you wrote it down...like 10 or so, and I brought it up to 14mm (ball park). Is my memory off?
I realize my riding abilities have a long way to improve, but I'm racking my brain to make my bike more user friendly and inspire a touch of confidence! I don't want to give up on it for the S1000RR just yet. Luckily I've sorted out the lugging reaction at low RPMs since installing the Termi's and Will trimming the ECU settings. Now I'd like to improve the suspension to make it lighter to tip in and hold the line w/out constantly wrestling it. I have realistic expectations, so I don't expect it to handle like I-4 bike just want the bike to treat me as nice as I treat it! [bow_down]

That is why I record all the settings for each of the bikes I help set up. There's still some things we can do adjustment wise to make it turn in easier.
Maybe someday we should swap bikes for a little while just to compare. Brandon doesn't think his S1000RR turns all that good either, not that it is a pig, but that it does take some muscle compared to the smaller bikes.
All bikes have their own characteristics and there is only so much you can do to change them to what you like. [Dolph]

You're welcome on the scan. Glad to hear you're getting it taken care of with "other warranty issues". I always just grab the wrenches and get after things. I guess I'm conditioned to that because it doesn't seem likely I will own a new bike with a warranty in my entire lifetime. I look at the new bikes in the showroom and although they're pretty they just don't hold any appeal to me. No character or something. On the other hand I'm drawn to buying a scrub out of some stank garage like a moth is drawn to the flame. :-\

No worries. DKWG is more than likely referring to the tendency of most Ducati riders to be continually fussing with things. Not that you are a victim in any negative sense but rather just another somewhat innocent rider that falls prey to "the need to modify, for whatever reason". Remember that he had a 996 at one time and knows full well the need to keep after these things so that they can be decently used on the streets.
I can fully understand the cooling fans project. Again I would say "trust me" about the usefulness of running a manual switch to turn those fans on & off but I also know that you will also get it working as good as you can too. [thumbsup]

Of course I've seen the Matrix, and I've had a few very close up views of this particular Matrix. ;D Saying the 4v Monster is not slow doesn't take anything away from the 998. I wouldn't even come close to characterizing the 4V Monster as being lame. Prior to the release of the 1098/1198 & the Streetfighter I used to say that a Monster S4Rs (?) was the perfect compromise bike.

Lighten up, it's nothing personal. We're all victims in this game, me just as much as anyone. As Rick mentioned earlier, I'm not new at this either and am quite versed at having to throw effort/money/time at high-zoot toys in order to make them work better/right.
