Title: Victory Vision
Post by: Randimus Maximus on May 19, 2008, 08:57:49 AM
I saw one of these beasts this weekend.

Holy shit is that thing huge, and IMO, ugly as sin.

Discuss.

I think most touring bikes are ugly, but i'd have to agree that this one is excessively ugly. And so wide that you might as well be driving a car.

It grows on you.

Rides beautifully and extremely comfortable.  Very well balanced.  And at least it's a V-Twin.

It is very next gen looking.  It's kind of ugly but the more I look at it the more I appreciate how it's put together.  It definately was one vision that they comitted to and not something that was toned down by committe.  At least that's how it looks to me.

I don't think I could handle a bike that size but I haven't read a bad review of it.  Most impressive stat for me; 4 inches of foam on the seat.  4 freaking inches!  It has to be comfy.

Hit every branch in the ugly tree  [puke]

I like the engineering in the chassis and engine though  [thumbsup]

Maybe they will come out with something less streamliner and more baggerish.

I agree this thing is ugly, but Polaris/Victory are probably looking at the aging demographics of the average rider.

These things are definitely targeted towards the AARP crowd.  From a business plan standpoint, they're on to something.

Good thing motorcycles aren't all about business plans, because otherwise Ducati probably wouldn't exist.   :)

Victory has a bagger or two out there.  Basically just their regular cruiser with a windshield and hard bags.  This is their first direct competitor to the Gold Wing.

Personally I really like the Victory cruisers.  If I had gotten a job sooner after getting back from Iraq I'd be riding a Vegas 8-Ball now.

Had a Harley bagger for a while and gotta say it handled better than most people would think.  Low center of gravity really helps keep it maneuverable.  Ditto for the Victory.  A buddy of mine got one a few months ago and absolutely loves it.  Granted it's a bit fugly and semi-scooterish in a gargantuan sort of way, but so is my buddy.  He swears it handles well, but I haven't given it a spin yet.  When I do I'll report back, if it doesn't give me a hernia.

I saw one at a shop when I was in Virginia. I had seen pictures, but they really don't do it justice. What Randy said is an understatement. The thing is a huge, ugly behemoth!

I can appreciate some cruisers, all day comfort and luggage but that is freakin' ugly.

Maybe I like it just because I like the way it rides.  I also like doing 4-500 mile days, it gets uncomfortable on the Monster, the Vision would take you that far in comfort.  Yes, it's huge.  Yes, it's ugly. Yes, it's comfortable!

I wouldn't want to take it out to my favorite twisties, that's what my Monster is for.  I wouldn't even want to commute on it.  But the road trip I have planned to Arizona next year?  Oh yeah.  I'd love it for that.  But instead I'll just tough it out on my Monster.  I'm not ready for that style of bike yet.  I'm only 24!

There's one that the local Victory dealer drives around here in the back of a glass-enclosed panel truck. I'd rather drive the truck.

I think of it more as a Maybach than, say, a Ferrari.

You're not likely to turn heads in a Maybach. Most people will think its a Benz. But as you're being chauffeured to the Paris Opera, you don't really care because you've got all the amenities of home.

I see this as being for those people who want to roll down the road in the comfort of their living room. You don't like it? That's fine. They're not even going to notice you. They're going to cruise another 250 miles before they stop for dinner and think back on how wonderful the day has been. To them, I say, bravo.

At the same time, I'd never roll one. Except maybe into a ditch. make the beast with two backs, that's hideous.

I'm just glad people have an opinion about it.

On one hand, it's huge and ugly.

On the other, it's probably comfy.

I sat on one in a showroom, it stood up almost as easily as the Monster.

It's built so that when it tips over, it can only tip so far and it doesn't damage anything.  It stops itself!  I've seen many 100 pound women pick it up from it's side, too.  I think that's really what's impressed me the most about it.  If ta comparable Harley or Goldwing goes over, you just spent several hundred to several thousand dollars on repairs plus you'd better hope you have a buddy or two to help you pick it up.

And about that Arizona road trip, Opatio.  When you get here, boy will you ever be glad you toughed it out on the Monster!!! This is about five minutes from my door (and doesn't even show my favorite parts of the White Spar twisties)

Video is no longer available. :(

I think the system works in the way they built the frame and I believe the floorboards.  I haven't looked at one for a while so I don't remember the details. :(

I found myself over near my local Victory dealer today so I stopped by to see if they had one.  It's not as big in person as I thought it would be.  Still funky looking, but not as obnoxiously large as I though.  Looking at it you can see some braces under the floor boards and under the exhaust that look like it would keep it off the ground pretty well.

You have no idea how horrible this thing is designed! When you see one without its skin, you'll see exactly what I mean. My roommate works for the local Aprilia/KTM/Victory dealer. He called me one day, just to see this thing. OMFG!!!! What in the hell were they thinking?!!! I can appreciate thinking outside the box, but seriously.... In his own words, "It's a bloated , cancerous abscess on the asshole of the motorcycle industry. A deranged, over chromed mastrubatory road going, bugs in your hair, stereo blaring, eyesore of an RV. It's a make the beast with two backsing tractor...built like you'd build a 1950's tractor...there's no intelligence to it. Metric and SAE on the same bike?!!! 800 pounds of impacted fecal mater on wheels!!"

Yep, I think that pretty much sums it up. [thumbsup]

(No offense was intended to any tractor owners.)

Hey none taken, but I do take my tractor pulls pretty seriously.  :P

The Victory is ugly, but I respect them for fully fairing a dresser bike I guess...and making it all futuristic.  Either way, I just cringe at the thought of splitting on that barge. [laugh]

Cory Ness, son of Arlen Ness did most of the design work on the Vision.

I don't think it's that bad looking in person.  A couple of weeks ago I stopped by the local Arlen Ness showroom in Dublin and took a Victory Vision for a test ride.  Unfortunately they wanted me back in ten minutes, so it wasn't long enough to get to any interesting roads.  I thought that it actually felt pretty good for a 900 pound motorcycle.  I thought the controls were a bit too far forward, but that's only an issue when coming to or pulling away from a stop.  I like the engine better than the Harley engine.

The personal Victory Vision of Arlen Ness was parked out in front when I was there and I thought it looked pretty cool.  They didn't have to do much to it to make it more interesting.  I really wish I had brought my camera along.

And I don't know why so many of you need to act like a pack of dogs attacking this bike.  You're probably the same ones that complain that all cruisers look the same.  You can't have it both ways.

Hey, I'll ride anything on two wheels.

How about comparing it to a Trike ? I followed a group of Trikers for about 10 miles one Sunday on a twisty section of road and they moved prety well for 3 wheeled Goldwings. They had been stopped at one of the 7 State Parks not far from where I live and I looked at them while they were stopped and some looked like they had interiors with comforts one would finf in a Cadillac or BMW 7 Series. $30,000 ready to go. Seemed a nice way to travel long distance . Sorry for the thread jack.

Hmm, to me the styling is reminiscent of something from the 40's with that sideways teardrop sort of shape.
Sorry, not a big fan.
